What Does "Sponsored By" Mean For Hospitals

I’m working on a project for hospitals and I have to go to their websites.

I noticed a few will say something like " Sponsored by the Wheaton Franciscan Sisters. (Example page down)

So far all the websites I’ve run across that have this are Catholic, but I noticed while “sponsors” own the hospitals, it appears some do not. What would this mean?

It probably means (a) that they founded it, (b) that they used to own and run it, and © that they have a continuing involvement with it, particularly in contributing to ethos, policy and strategic direction.
