What does the acronym ACORN stand for?

As has been pointed out, dimbulb, once those registrations are written up, they are required by law to submit them. They did so, while calling attention to them to make sure they would be scrutinized and thrown out.

Well, no, but apparently if he’s a democrat then the democrats are to blame.

I’m still waiting for some solid evidence that Obama was somehow linked to this. Is it as flimsy as he supported ACORN and it’s efforts (which McCain has done also)? That’s pretty weak stuff.

Looks like the Forces of Darkness have decided to raise this goat leprosy to a campaign “issue”.

**Palin: Obama must ‘rein in’ ACORN **

Further:

What voter fraud is she referring to?

The one that the Liberal Media™ isn’t reporting on, obviously.

There is none. Greg Pallast said he would track down the 6 repubs claimed 4 years ago. When he did they were all legitimate. 178 million votes and voter fraud is a joke. It is an excuse to allow wholesale cutting of likely dem voters. Minnie Mouse never showed up to vote. It is a fabrication.

ACORN is an innocent political organization with no desire to influence votes. Yep I got it.

Strawman much?

I feel like I’m watching an Olympic sport–synchronized stupidity. One righty stops swimming, so another swans in to take up the banner.

Damn, I mixed my metaphors like a motherfuck.

Gotta stick this somewhere.

ACORN “scandal” a neocon plot?

Yeah, I used the FOX question mark. What of it?

ACORN is a tool of the liberals? Is this the same ACORN that John McCain appeared before and told them “the future of America is here in this room”? (I just saw the video on TV, so can’t help you with a cite). These inconvenient truths that arise when McCain’s senility kicks in must really rankle.

New rule of thumb: If it’s up there with HomosexualAgenda as one of the top tags on the freep, it’s probably bullshit.

Really. The freepers are posting ACORN stories at the rate of about one every fifteen minutes.

Over an issue that Bricker got roundly spanked on a week ago.

I’m feeling a little stabby.

I should probably lay off the Jameson.

Does the law require them to write up registrations for the same guy 73 times? To write up registrations for Mickey Mouse and Tony Romo (in Ohio)? No.

Of course not, and I think you are missing that no one is opposed to charge the guilty registers (that are dismissed then by ACORN) with a crime and fine them, as it was the case in the past, and as it was in the past, ACORN was not shut down. That alone tells me what in the end the courts concluded how far the punishment needed to go. And there were no reports of the registration fraud then turning into a voter fraud issue in those elections.

Well, isn’t that dandy! I just finish an exhaustive review of all state and federal voter registration laws relative to fictional mice and football players (they are silent on those points, by the way) and then GIGO comes in and makes it all moot!

If I didn’t think you believed your bullshit, I’d think you were a troll.
You remind me a lot of an ex-boyfriend of mine. I realized that he didn’t know anything at all when he’d keep changing the subject and trying to turn questions back on me that didn’t have anything to do with the question I asked him. It seemed he knew enough about a given subject to be able to ask one stupid question about each one, but never answer anything.

But, what do I know. You’d probably say that dating a guy like him says a lot about my judgment and dating practices.

I’m not a football fan, so I wouldn’t have glanced twice at Tony Romo. But have you ever considered that he might not be the only person in America with that name? There are something like 80 people in the U.S. named Harry Potter. Should they have their registrations thrown out?

This is why groups that gather voter registrations do not have the authority to reject any applications. This is why–and please pay attention to this, because it just doesn’t seem to be getting through to the ACORN-haters–they have to turn in every voter registration card they get. If someone fills the form out as Tony Romo, or Mickey Mouse, or Harry Potter, or Fuck U. Motherfuckers, it has to be turned in. They can flag it as suspicious, and they appear to have done just that, but they have to be turned in.

If their employees filled out fake forms to pad their totals, that sucks, and they should do what they can to prevent that. Again, they appear to have done a lot toward that end already. But it doesn’t make them evil.

Or are you saying that ACORN is deliberately submitting all these bogus registrations? In that case, you should be thanking them for wasting their time instead of registering potential Obama voters.

As for the guy who registered 73 times, I don’t know the story on that, but I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that you don’t either.

For those of you defending ACORN, what good can come of registering bogus voters? What is their reason for doing it in the first place?

There is no good reason to do it. Haven’t you been reading the explanations that other posters have painstakingly laid out for you? If a lazy or incompetent ACORN worker fills out registration cards with bogus names, or if a stupid or jerkish voter puts a bogus name on a card, ACORN is legally obligated to turn those cards in anyway.

I mean, think about it: would you really want any organization that was registering voters having the legal right to decide which cards get turned in and which get tossed? Wouldn’t that run the risk of much more serious abuse than the current situation where all names have to be submitted, even when they’re flagged as bogus?

Just out of idle curiosity, what would prevent Carol Stream and a group of like-minded people from seeking out ACORN workers, and filling out bogus registrations? It is my understanding that once those registrations are written up, ACORN is required by law to submit them. Or to put it another way, ACORN is legally obligated to turn those cards in anyway. (I hope this is clear - some people in this thread do not seem to be reading this part)

Then, once the bogus registrations are legally submitted by ACORN, the Carol Stream-like people can yell and scream about FRAUD and Demand an Explanation, and Fill Blogs with Indignation, and Give Talking Points to McCain. (to use winnie the pooh speak)

Tin foil hat territory, perhaps. But it IS possible to do.
