What does this mean? (Computer question)

For the last month or so I’ve had a problem with my Computer turning itself off and I’m unable to start it back up (I have a Gateway).
Anyhow since It’s brand new (bought it in March) I sent it back to Gateway for repairs. First time I sent it in it was sent back to me with a letter saying that no problems were found and they installed Nero.

Two days later the same thing happens again (now I’m pissed). I send it in AGAIN
and after two weeks I get it back with a letter
saying…

Repairs made:
Overheating. CHECK PURGE NOTICE OF SYS BID
REPLACED POWER SUPPLY AND SYS BID.
Whats a SYS BID?

By the way…The repairs were free since its still under warranty

so far so good

knocks on wood.

Sure it’s not SYS B/D? Short for system board, aka motherboard.

Yeah thats what it is.

So it was a serious problem I guess?
I know nothing about computers…

I’d like to know what a “purge notice” is. Sounds to me like there’s a serious design flaw in those system boards and they just replace them whenever someone shows up with a bad one.
