All except heroin and crack. The poll results would be more interesting if there’d been a none option.
Wow! This video is a great argument against ever taking salvia (note that I didn’t even know it existed before reading this thread). And the worst part isn’t even what the guy did, but rather watching the girl who afterward seems to be reduced to the state of mind and behaviour of a lobotomized cow.
True enough (by any reasonable expectation anyway).
To clarify, there are about a dozen or so states who permit it and ONLY for medical use. Although there is a federal which forbids it outright. I never understood how the two have co-existed.
No, it’s not a fact; first off, “many” do not unless you have what is IMO an unusual definition of the word, and it has nothing to do with age.
Given that the only legal way is if you have a serious medical condition eg cancer, I can’t imagine why you’d advocate it, unless you’re only suggesting it to people living in countries where it’s legal or much more tolerated, or for people in the USA to take a trip overseas - which is a fun idea anyway.
Weed, and nitruous (is nitruous a drug, even for purposes of this thread)?
I’m curious about amyl nitrite/poppers. What are the effects?
And also, hash: is it like super-duper-good weed, or a different high all together?
To me, one hit of hash was like maybe 5 or 10 hits of weed.
Damn. Maybe you & I were at the same or similar ceremony. The late 70’s? In Az?
This is also the only “illegal” drug i have tried and even then they claimed it was legal under Federal law.
I did see some visions of demons dancing in the fire. And I harfed my guts out too. Nasty stuff.
The one and only time I tried it/them, I felt like my heart was going to redline and explode. I don’t remember how long it lasted, but for a while there I felt like I had the metabolism of a hummingbird.
As long as you didn’t swallow.
Weed, LSD, and cocaine.
Enjoyed the cocaine so much the first time I used it I swore I would never touch the stuff again - and didn’t.
LSD appealed to the cheap college student in me. A $5 hit of acid, two packs of smokes, and I’m good for the night.
Weed. Well, you gotta have weed when you’re tripping, right? And for those times your not, right?
Yes. The only time I tried cocaine, I thought “I like this too much. It’ll bankrupt me or kill me.” So I never did it again. Fortunately, it seemed like a short-lived high or the temptation to continue may have been too great.
I see why they call you guys Dopers!
I checked several myself, including Other, but have tamed down significantly since the Nixon Administration or so.
I consider myself lucky. Coke never did anything but make my upper lip go numb. Oh, and it did help clear my sinuses. It was so abundant in the 80s I might have fallen down that hole if it affected me the way it so many others.
Coffee, tea, tobacco, all forms of alcohol but kvass and absinthe, marijuana, marijuana oil, hashish, hash oil, cocaine, opium, all kinds of speed including meth, a few downers, MDA, Oxycontin, LSD, mescaline, peyote, nitrous oxide.
That’s all I can remember.
Coke just mostly made me hyper. And thirsty.
Tried LSD once. Didn’t hallunicate, but I suddenly understood the term getting “fried.” It did feel like someone had cooked my brain in a frying pan or something. Pass.
Shrooms just made me laugh near uncontrollably. It seemed like a good thing initially but I decided I don’t like being “forced” to laugh so passed. Really weed was about the only thing I ever cared for, and even the appeal of that faded as I got older.
PS the results were about what I expected, although I am surprised how many said “nothing ever” and the low count on estasy, which I thought was the cool trendy drug.
Colorado in the late 00’s. At least you got to see something!
It had a similar (non) effect on me – I thought maybe I could see more stars in the night sky, so maybe it dilated my pupils or had a similar optical effect, but nothing else. I tried it maybe 3 times, and never felt much of anything, and I suspected that I was just getting some kind of white powder passed off as coke. But other people there swore they were feeling the full charge, whatever that was.
well… heres my story…
I always avoided the woozy drugs, pills, heroin, crack… never wanted to feel a loss of control… did my time with alcohol as a youth, though…perhaps as a thrill and peer pressure… but now, it just gives me a headache…(my memories of getting sick on old rum and cokes still haunt me, 40 years later…I cant stand that smell:eek:
I didnt try coffee till my late 30’s, I never knew it had a “use” I just thought it smelled bad, so I avoided it!!..long time drinker now. I like taste now as well…gotta have cream and sugar though.
my personals:
-
I went through “a spot of bother” with coke and other stimulants…seemed easier than food, sleeping, and working out…haha…yeah right:rolleyes:. All better now.
-
Always loved marijuana, now that I’m older(58) it doesnt do the same things though, makes me feel sickly and paranoid. I think because its SO much much stronger now, thats the difference, and the different strains as well…kinda funny to me, as I tried to be an herb farmer when it was illegal, and chased it around and around, minimal success ,smoked 24/7/365…surfed and worked with it… haha… and now in California?, where I live, its more popular than booze, and easier to get!! And out of control as far as I can tell, within the legality as it stands… And the gold rush mentality is just wild too!!! …(as with the gold rush, folks do well selling bread and eggs to the farmers…or flatscreens and solar panels nowadays)
3… I have Always been intrigued by the psychedelics, as meditation and my flighty mind havnt really worked that well, towards solving the mysteries, which tend to intrude in my mind somewhat daily…(hence my following GDebates ha)
Given that drugs only work if there is a receptor in our brain for them, and that our bodies can do everything naturally through those receptors…I know its a shortcut, but…well, like I said, I am curious and meditations and I havnt gotten too far. sooooo :o
…I feel that its a humans birthright, like an orgasm, or tasting food or water… to access that part of your software which the psychedelics access, if you cant get access on your own…I dont know if that “function” of the mind is there for a reason?..but well YMMV
ps
the Mazatecs call Salvia “Ska Maria Pastora” or Leaves of Mary the Shepherdess…and IMHO, this is an apt description. One of the biggest unknowns I have ever encountered…Shepherd to what? No idea…
The concentrated extracts, are, however,NOT a good idea for anyone but a well seasoned explorer, or a bungy jumper or someone of that sort of mindset… as its similar to an NDE, and you need to be able to deal with that.
.And, like everything else we all do, whatever it is… do your homework first!!! Set, setting, intent and knowledge.
Jupe
Cannabis, of course. Used it all my adult life and it doesn’t seem to have affected my attention spa
LSD; A half-dozen times or so in my 20’s. Liked it, in a way, but it’s pretty intense. Don’t think it would be a good idea these days, acid is a young (wo)man’s game.
Hashish, which of course is just a concentrate of cannabis.
Never tried coke when it was in vogue, or meth, seen them take too many people down. And besides, I never really moved in those circles.
Long ago, there were some little white pills called cross-tops that truck drivers and others used to stay awake for long periods. I guess they were some kind of amphetimine. Took those a few times for kicks or on long drives. About all they did was give me jittery nerves for a coupla hours. Meh.
Other: Recently had occasion to try something called “lettuce opium” extracted from a common weed, Lactuca serriola. It’s cheap, readily available and entirely legal, unfortunately it didn’t seem to have much effect aside from a slight drowsiness.
