What ever happened to the President Idol show?

I remember early last year hearing about an American Idol-type show where contestants vie to be chosen as a presidential candidate.
I thought that would be rather cool (hey, not much different then how we elect one now anyway).

Does anyone remember hearing about it?

American Candidate will be on Showtime in Summer 2004.

They’ve extended the application deadline to April 9, so there’s still time to sign up.
