What Exactly Did Laverne & Shirley Do On The Line

In the show Laverne & Shirley, when it was set in Milwaukee they worked on an assembly line as bottle cappers.

OK but what exactly did they do. The beginning credits just show them staring at beer while it passes them by. It seems that the machines would actually put the caps on the bottle. So what did they do? Did they just pick the bottles out that somehow got by uncapped or improperly capped?

God help me for knowing this, but they were bottle cappers at the Shotz Brewery.

(according to Wiki, they lost their jobs as cappers to automation & that precipitated the movie to California in a later season)

UT

Back when pop and beer bottles were washed and refilled, I think it was common to have people watch them travel past a backlight to be sure there was nothing other than liquid in the bottle, that there was a full portion of liquid, and that the bottle was not badly scuffed or damaged. First-year law students learn that there’s a “mouse in the pop bottle” tort case in every state.

Yeah, brewery quality control, I guess.

When I was in junior high school I did a damn good imitation of Squiggy.

I know they were let go due to automation, but it didn’t seem like they actually put tops on the bottles by hand.

It. Their way.

Hot lesbian sex?

Laverne was no lesbian and despite her “wandering eye” she was virginal. As she told Shirley, “Watch it Shirl…I’m wearing white.”

Besides L&S had one of the funniest lines in history

Technically a virgin, but still a lot of fun by the third date.
