What exactly is good about Islam?

Your “points” are hardly original, I would call it boilerplate bigotry.

Wrong. My OP made much more sense and brought up actual valid points.

It did? Show them to me please?

Also, you clearly don’t spend much time with anti atheist Christians, because I can tell you with certainty there is something almost identical to what I posted in my facebook feed right now.

Your OP is an appalling mishmash of half formed thoughts. Actually your three “topics” (women submitting to husbands/fathers, fasting (WTF) and declaration of sole true insight) are all pretty standard Abrahamic themes.

Though fasting ticks you off? If you’re talking about Ramadan, you eat before sun up and break fast after sun down - it’s an exercise in self control.

Religious freedom is something I take very seriously. If I had to pick one religion that is without merit, I’d say Scientology. Yet I would resist any attempt to shut down this religion as I would any other.

So what religion would you allow, in your perfect world?

Also, you MIGHT want to check the religious beliefs of “terrorists” such as those who perpetrated the Sabra and Shatila massacres in Lebanon, or the members of the National Liberation Front of Tripura, or Eric Rudolph? Should we ban their religion too?

Examples. I was also trying to show the hypocrisy of liberals who support Islam.

You’re doing it badly

No religion at all. Also, in my OP I didn’t mention people who were Muslim, I mentioned actual Muslim beliefs.

Be more specific. What do you want examples of? That the things you bring up are common in all Abrahamic religions if your look at them the right way or that your op is a mishmash of half formed thoughts?

I would posit a guess that the things you mention are features of non abrahamic religions too, but I don’t know enough about other world religions to say.

You’re making it more apparent with every post.

But ok - please, do tell us exactly how to force acceptance of what you think is reality and logical thinking? You’re so far completely failing to do so in this thread, and demonstrating spectacular ignorance of basic aspects of our Constitution.

And as a fellow atheist, may I say, stay off my side. You’re not helping.

I meant that the “mishmash” was composed of examples of how Islam is bad.

The dominion/superiority of men of over women is more of a human theme. You’ll find it in Buddhism, Hinduism, Shintoism…you name it, it’s it a human institution, it’s probably sexist…and religions are just human institutions.

Well, so far it doesn’t seem like I’ve received a single decent response, all of them are composed of either people informing me that those qualities are present in other religions, which I never denied or said anything about in the OP, or providing half baked reasons which make no sense.

I don’t care about the sexism, it was just an example because liberals condemn sexism but don’t condemn Islam.

Well, good luck with that. Religious people remain a huge majority, and religious freedom remains a human right - one which you claim for yourself, but not others.

What would you say to a Muslim who didn’t approve of beating women, or shunning nonbelievers, or killing apostates?

That they’re not a Muslim. Also, I was asked about what I would do in a perfect world. Clearly, this world isn’t perfect.

Maybe that’s because the best people to answer the question “What’s good about Islam” would be Muslims and/or those who have studied or experienced Islam; and we don’t have large numbers of such people here on the SDMB. Also, it’s not clear you’ve been asking in good faith.

Likely because condemning a specific act is way more effective that condemning a world religion followed by billions following a myriad of practices.

Well, sexism and Islam are two different things.

You’d be wrong.

Try asking Christians you know if they believe that Jesus came to uphold the Jewish law, or if they believe that women should “learn in quietness and full submission”, or if witchcraft is real. You might be surprised at the answers you get. So either no one is actually religious, or your definition of religion doesn’t apply to the real world.

So what’s the plan, defeat religions generally by starting with the most vulnerable minorities in the US? A sort of divide and conquer thing?
