Digs, That sounds like great fun.
I’m not sure why I’m bothering since it’s pretty clear you’re just trying to piss people off and not even doing it terribly well, but I’ll humor you.
For starters, to get a Ph.D “the Bible” you’d have to know a lot about the Jewish culture of the Middle East, a very thorough understanding of Judaism, as well as the various cultures in the region.
Most importantly, if you were going to get a Ph.D in the Bible then presumably you need to learn to read the Bible in the languages it was written in, and if you think that any ten-year-old in America could easily learn Hebrew and Aramaic, then you’re even stupider than you appear.
i thought that too but it would seem that not all Ph.D need to learn ancient languages. not those who become preachers. those who go into academia, yes.
Forgot to add Ancient Greek as well.
You’re still missing it.
The PhD is not the degree to become “preachers”. Those are different degrees, if they have a degree at all. Again, a PhD is an academic research degree. However, many D of Theology degrees, and other doctorate type religion degrees, do require language requirement.

It’s rather tedious to try to take someone seriously when they won’t do the bare minimum before they made dramatic assertions. It’s a waste of time. All I did was Google a few programs FFS.
Indeed.
OK, a slothful executor and a fertile octogenarian discuss the ownership interests in Blackacre for Andrew, Barnaby, Charles, Daniel, and Edward. What do they conclude? ![]()
Nobody codifies and/or sanctions Hindu beliefs. Hinduism, like most religions, describes a broad range of belief systems that frequently have very little to do with one another and there is no central authority.
You want to know what else is going to be tedious? Trying to convince me that writing a dissertation on (some aspect of) Paul Tillich, John Wesley, or Thomas Aquinas isn’t going to be on the easy end of the spectrum, compared to some of the very demanding fields of study out there.
The only thing tedious here is you ignoring the title of your own thread. The sum of your posts in this thread can be boiled down to “I am willingly ignorant”.
The only thing worse than ones ignorance is not being aware of ones own ignorance.
well, actually, yesterday, i made a post that was sarcastic in it’s intent and condescending in it’s description. why would you think i was actually posing it as a legitimate question?
Because the sum-total of everything I know about you is based on what you choose to post on this board. Consider what you have given us to use as a basis of evaluate whether to believe you or not. Its been a combination of snark, poor grammar, disingenuous posts mixed with apparently sincere responses. Frankly, I’m done being expected to filter the lies from the truth and it being my fault when I guess wrong.
you know, you have a certain amount of truth to your statement but that doesnt mean you got it quite right, either. as for my part i thought this was pretty darn obvious from the get go that i was being sarcastic and condescending:
Exactly what does it take to get a PhD in (Christian) Theology:
Because, to be quite honest, there is not much in the bible that is too complicated, most of it can be understood by a 10th grader very easily, certainly all of it could be understood (understand, not agree) by your average college freshman.
What would you of had me done? Make a disclaimer that oh, BTW, I am being sarcastic? I mean seriously, not to start a fight all over again but I think it was pretty clear that was sarcasm. Or is it actually unclear? I could be wrong…
Are you sure you’re not searching for guidance from The Lord our God? I can’t help but get the impression that you find your life a meaningless waste, and that you’re desperate to find something to hang onto. May I suggest reading Bertrand Russell; Why I Am Not a Christian; 1927. Every lonely soul needs direction, I hope you find it soon.
There are parts of my life that are difficult. But one of the greatest improvements to my mental health and well being was when I quit praying and trying to be spiritual and figured out I needed to improve my life on my own, instead of relying upon some pretend god that never materialized.
And yet here you are, unemployed, bored, and trolling a message board that you joined nine years ago and never had any interest in. So how’s that whole self-improvement thing going?
It’s taking longer than he thought.
it is a bit of a struggle. do you have any point in saying this beyond just being hostile?
‘rhetorical’ - look it up - doesn’t require a mamby pamby phd in dictionary science to understand.
perhaps i was being rhetorical too
