What forum do you put a “did you know” in?
Depends on the content. “Did you know that you eat approximately 20,000 spiders a year?” would be a MPSIMS thread, “Did you know Iran…” is probably Great Debates, “Did you know Obama/Romney…” is probably Elections, and for anything about movies, music, food, or actors you’d put it in Cafe Society, and for video games or sports it’d go in The Game Room.
If you want to make a GENERAL trivia thread that encompasses all of the above, it would probably be MPSIMS.
Most people get around this issue by manufacturing some kind of pretense. Usually they choose IMHO, and say something like this:
[QUOTE=Example of Typical SDMB Pretense for Starting an IMHO Thread]
Where would you most like to be shipwrecked? I was looking at ship wrecks on Google Maps the other day, and it occurred to me that most shipwrecks happen in very inconvenient places. I thought that if I had to be shipwrecked, it would be maybe in this place.
Where would you like to be shipwrecked?

I don’t think they really want to read all the responses when they do this (though they know that everyone will respond). I think they really just want to say, “Hey, look what I figured out on Google Maps…”
