What Game show is this? Shown in Home Alone 2

Ok, I guess my local markets don’t or didn’t pick up this show, or perhaps it went to the big game show channel in the sky. Kevin (Macully Culkin) is shown recording sounds from various places on a tape recorder device. (Which is crucial to the plot later on) Kevin Records the tail end of the game show in question, which has a in show plug for The Plaza New York.

The Game show which is on the screen just long enough to be of consequence, reminds me of “Break the Bank” and Battleship. A contestant calls off a section/pannel on the board, and it is revealed. The game shows title was a natural order of Otamonapeia (SP) that seems to be crucial cards to reveal in game play. Spelling Bee on The Price is Right seems to be similar to this entire game’s premise.
What game show is this? Were there variant gameshows made on it?

I haven’t seen the movie, but that sounds like “Concentration.”

In that game, the object is to solve a rebus, a picture puzzle. For example, if there was a picture of a windmill, a picture of a man walking, and a picture of a house key, the answer would be “Milwaukee” (mill + walk + key).

But to see the picture puzzle, you have to clear tiles off the board, and the way to do that is by concentrating and remembering what prizes are behind what tiles.

Example: contestant 1 asks “Let me see tile #15.” Underneath that tile, we see “Sony Television.” Well, if the contestant remembers that the other contestant had revealed “Sony Television” under tile #22, he then asks for #22. That makes a match, he wins a Sony TV, and the picture puzzle is revealed underneath the two tiles he’s matched.

Once enough tiles are revealed, one of the contestants can figure out what the rebus says, and that contestant wins the match.

I was afraid someone would suggest Concentration after I finished writing the OP. I have seen Concentration and I know it is not what was shown on HA-2.

Clarification: The panels when removed has ‘self contained’ information; text or a money value. The pannels could be rearanged in any patern and not change the over all layout. That is, a pannel didnt ‘care’ what was to the left, right, bottom and top of it. I assume however that pannel placement does figure in, to give the house an advantage. As I mentioned, the contestant had to get a series of otamonapeia, and I think it may have to have been in order. I would think the board layout guy would avoid putting the winning pannels in a straight line. OR do just that on the concept of a 'double bluff".

it was suggested to me that HA-2 could have created the show just for the movie. The clip I recall has the show playing on the TV, leading me to beleive it was an actual game. I further think that any movie would NOT spend money on a game show set, just to show from a tv set, and just for the 5 or less seconds it is shown.

Slight hijack: and no its not PIG IN A POKE on NATL Lampoon’s European Vacation.

IIRC it was called something like ‘Ding Dang Dong’?

OK I can give you a more detailed answer now.

The game show in Home Alone 2 was called ‘Celebrity Ding-Dang-Dong’. It wasn’t a real show. According to the GSiOM (Game Shows in Other Media) FAQ, the makers of HA2 used used $100,000 Fortune Hunt props.

ok, so now I can google Fortune hunt and get further. thanks
