What geezer things do you find cool?

Public radio.
50’s kitchenalia/60’s anything/futuristic antiques grins

Not having to go to work or school. If I could just get rid of doctor and dentist appointments everything would be great!

When I was your age, sonny, Grieg had only written one piano concerto. . .

I play bridge. The only place to play is at the senior center in town and so I go there once a week and hang out with the old people. At any bridge tournament I’m at, I instantly drop the average age by 20 years just walking through the door. What’s even better is that I get all these people giving me their numbers and asking to be my partner for an afternoon or so. It’s like they’re teenagers and I’m Elvis or something.
Anyway, I just qualified for the Nationals in Reno, so I’ll be interested to see how geezerific it is at that level.

If you can walk into a cafeteria at 5:00, step on a duck in front of a group from a bingo bus and then hold up the line asking for extra cornbread then hell yeah, geezerdom is pretty cool.

Bingo!

(Well, I’ve only played it once recently, but I did share a win with another player! Got $10 bucks out of it…)

BTW, bingo’s changed a lot since I was a kid!

Another young bridge player here, although I doubt I’m anywhere near Enderw24’s level.

Writing actual letters, on paper.

Rat Pack music.

Ealing comedies.

Radio 4 and the Archers.

I really enjoyed the two rounds of golf I played, too.

Another vote for Rat Pack music, plus having a nice cup of tea and reading a book.

– I like a good polka as much as the next guy.

– I wanted to keep my grandfathers thick wool jacket he used on his farm and he gave to me but my mom kept saying it wouldnt be “cool” at college and wouldnt let go till I threw it out…and now he’s dead :(…sorry, not geezerish but it brought that up, I thought at the time that I didnt really care about fashion, just wanted a good jacket.

Car coats/long overcoats. Made of wool and they reach down past my knees (I’m 6 foot tall).

I have three, all from Goodwill. Two are from local stores that no longer exist. I feel sophisticated when I wear them, they look great with dress clothes and have tons of pockets.

Now that my hair is short, I’m thinking about getting a dress hat. But you don’t even see that many geezers wearing hats anymore.

So, anyone here wear driving gloves?

Pocket watches
hats (no baseball)
trench coats
complaining about kids these days
[TV’s Frank]these kids today with their hula hoops and fax machines…bahhhh[\TV’s Frank]

Oh yeah, I carry a pocket watch too! I’m all about the pocket watch.

Can you imagine how much fun we would all have at our very own Dope Fest?

I love Harris tweeds and sensible shoes for a good walk. Fortunately our city zoo was built on a farm a couple of blocks away. The farm has been preserved and I have the place pretty much to myself while everyone else is interested in exotic animals. It is complete with stable and horses, sheep, and cows.

I wear hats all the time. I’m taking several cloches to Paris in April. I need a Holly Golightly cigarette holder for cafe sitting.

I have a wicker rocking chair and a six foot white wicker swing on my front porch. Come by for a little port and Edith Piaf.

Ya’ll are swell! And I am an old geezer!

Aside: (Guin, is that really a photo of you in LJ?)

Rockabilly.

Be-Bop.

Swing.

P-90 Pickups (electric guitar pickups made by Gibson in the '50’s - trust me, you know how they sound and you love 'em in a timeless way).

Noir. In a non-postmodern, unironic way.

Pocket Watches, of course. (great call, BBVLou)

Books, in a day when books mattered.

I’ve long used the local PBS station as background for my Saturday afternoon naps (cooking shows sequing into “This Old House” et al.). This truly scares the hell out of me – I’ve started leaving it on that channel at 7 when Lawrence Welk comes on.

Hey, it’s the only place you can see tap-dancing on TV anymore. It’s not very good tap-dancing, but…

Yikes.

Now some folks
Try to tell you
Lester Young
He’s out of style

But now I’m
Here to tell you
Prez is happenin’
Happenin’ now

Life story
Love and glory
If you listen
While he plays it for you

Now listen
And listen
And dig it

Can’t you dig it

Lester Young is playing what he’s feeling

I WISH! Actually, I just changed my avatar, but that picture was of Kate Winslet. It’s one of the photos of Rose in Titanic that Old Rose has beside her bed at the end of the movie.
