Had a friend who rode with Fidel and was hit in the butt with one of them. Didn’t exactly kill him.
Haven’t shot many, but I have shot much…
.30 M-1 Carbine (funny, I found it to be quite accurate, and it sent a brass-jacketed round clean through an oak tree about 8 inches thick)
.380 Lama pistol (many, many times…)
.45 Colt gov’t model (may have been a copy, I was very young at the time and it was my uncle’s gun. He told me it was a “Colt .45 Auto”.)
.9mm Luger
.22 pump-action rifle
several .22 semi-auto rifles
.22 revolver
.22 semi-auto pistol
.410 pistol-grip “snake charmer” (single shot)
.410 pump
Winchester .30-30 lever-action
12-ga Winchester pump
12-ga Remington 840 pump(the one most cops use - cocking that thing is as loud as slamming a car door. Definitely intended as a psychological effect.)
Colt .38 Special
Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum
I think that covers it.
screw goose guns. Elephant gun and this thing was a home made style black powder elephant gun to fire it you had to sit back to back against a person or sit against a tree but with the tree there was a chance of shatering your shoulder. This thing would easily knock you back a foot if not proparly braced. as a side note i never personally fired it but i did see it and helped in the bracing and i felt a shock wave through my body.

Try shooting one for group at 100 yds, even with handloads.
Like all military rifles, they have slightly over-sided chambers to help cut down the possibility of jamming under battle conditions. But the head-spacing on them is even sloppier than most. I had a friend, a pretty good, shade-tree gunsmith, who once wanted to accurize one but gave it up as more trouble than it was worth after taking the initial measurements.
True, the little .30 cartridge has a fair amount of snort at close range, but reaching a little, it just sort of peters out.
On the plus side, it is a reliable, easy to maintain, short-range weapon that is at least better than a club.
Only guns at fun fairs
I like shooting
But that machine gun was weird… hehe
Simple, it just doesn’t hold the same kind of interest for us;)
But anyway, if you must know, as far as I remember, this is what I’ve shot:
.22 Air Rifles
9mm Pistol L9A1
Lee Enfield .303
7.62mm L42A1 Sniper Rifle
9mm L2A3 Sterling SMG (30 rounds in about 2 seconds IIRC…fun)
7.62mm L1A1 SLR
7.62mm L4A2 LMG (‘Bren’, but only with wooded blanks, so that probably doesn’t count)
L7A2 GPMG (‘Gimpy’…lots of fun:))
5.56mm M16 Rifle
And a few shotguns too, maily a Remington Wingmaster, pump action.
Proof that the Apocalypse is upon us…
This thread has gotten more posts than any non-Pit thread I’ve ever posted. How weird is that?
WHo would’ve thunk that there would be so much firepower on the SDMB? But I want to know one thing from Gunslinger: you say you fired a side-by-side .410 double shotgun. What kind of gun was this? How old was it? I’ve never heard of double shotguns in .410 and this makes me curious.
Could have been, i don’t know it was one they use in austrailia if that helps?? as for my pansy ass “limp wristing it” that’s very possible, seeing as i had never shot a handgun before, but it happened to the instructor too, (although only once) and he’s been a cop for 25 years… sorry if i tweaked your noodle on this one, im not really an expert on the matter of guns, and was just writing what happened in my experience.
Lizard: While I don’t know what models Gunslinger is shooting, Stoeger IGA has two models of SxS shotguns available in various gauges and barrel lengths, including .410s. When you click on the above link, look to the upper right-hand corner of the page for Stoeger IGA double guns (there should be 6 models available), particularly the “Coach” and “Uplander” models.
An M-16, on the firing range, while in the US Army
Gee, I wonder why none of the brits, cloggers or krauts have contributed to this thread

I’ve never held a real gun and don’t want to.
Where I live, you can sometimes see asshole teens on the streetcorner waving them around, and the murder rate and press coverage shows they shoot at people for the dumbest nothing arguments, turf wars and $100 drug arguments.
sure, Ex-Tank. I’ve sometimes done defence work, and sometimes Crown work, depending on where I was practising. Fully automatic firearms are generally prohibited in Canada; there are some “grandfather” clauses that permit some individuals to continue possessing them, but by and large it’s a criminal offence to possess a fully automatic firearm. Handguns are restricted weapons and have to be registered. Their use is generally pretty limited. I’ve been involved in some prosecutions for possesion of full autos, and been consulted on prosecutions for unregistered restricted weapons.

Its difficult to believe the changes my country has undergone in the last ten years.
Then, just before everything changed, the government of the day, living in some paranoid realm decided that we needed to be ready for the big day, just about the time I fell into conscription for one year and even though I was assigned an admin position (because of my very frowned upon view of pacifism) I was sent to bush phase and taught a few things about survival and how to shoot some really big guns.
The propoganda of the day suggested that at any second, we could get attacked by the ‘swart gevaar’ (the ‘black danger’), the ‘rooi gevaar’ (the ‘red danger’ - communists from Angola and the like who were on the side of the anti-apartheid underground etc etc). And to top it all off, we had some friends in strange places, one of which was Isreal, then believed to be the manufacturers of the best weapons available (possibly because they ahd been at war for so long, they had the experience).
Anyway, as a result, we had to know how to operate weapons of all types from all these guys as well as our own local brands.
I have had the displeasure of firing 9mm to LMG, shot guns, semi auto, fully autos AK47s R1 to R5s, patmor (60mm mortar) up to 120mm (with some help of course), even RPG 7 or 9 - cant remember, but it made a hell of a bang. Rifle grenades etc, all part of training. There were a lot of booby trap type mines and trip wire things too, certainly the most expensive week of my life.
To this day I still feel uncomfortable around weapons and devices of pain (even though I love violent movies and black comedies etc).
I have recently inherited a .22 lady derringer from a previous era (it sure is old) I have sent it in to get repaired and evaluated, I really dont want any firearms in the house at all. Any offers?
