Angel:
Since we have this thread, could someone please tell me what happened on Buffy last week? My dad’s attempt to take it got screwed up (I work Tuesday nights) and I saw the first twenty minutes or so, and then the last ten seconds. Spike was going to explain how he killed the Slayer. My dad watched it and his summary was “Spike says all Slayers have a death wish.” Is there anything else I should know? (My dad isn’t really a Buffy fan; he prefers Angel.)
BTW, I think Riley is going crazy. I hope so. That would be cool. His feelings of inadequacy are getting annoying. Unless the vampire lady turned him into one before he staked her. That could be interesting. I don’t know why Dawn’s comments would give him so much angst - Dawn said that it was good that Buffy was dating a less brooding, human type.
Also: is the blond detective chick now a vampire? Or just injured and really pale? Oh, and what was up with Angel telling her to play dead? That would seem to indicate that he wasn’t really as out of it as it looked. But if he wasn’t, why did he bite her? I’m confused.
So BOTH shows had someone maybe becoming vampires. We shall see next week.
Buffy’s mom bores me. She sure bounced back pretty quickly from that biopsy, huh?
Can someone explain to me exactly what the distinctions are in Buffy land as far as how you turn into a vamp, as opposed to being simply killed when a vamp drains you? Or how long you can let a vamp nibble without being in danger?
The mysterious demon woman appears to be named “Glory”, or at least that is what she told the sniveling drip-candle-faced monk who was trying to “glorify” her with what I thought was some pretty lameass scriptwriting.
Thought the sweater-sniffing/panty-stealing scene was pretty embarrassingly bad. Tho it was good for a giggle when Riley held Spike out in the sun and he started to sizzle.
Didn’t Buff know the intern’s name? Do they know each other from somewhere else? Is he the same guy who was almost attacked in the locker room a couple of weeks ago?
Overall, a pretty darn weak episode. Glad they are making Anya a more rounded out character. And did Willow’s GF (Why am I spacing on names today?) get a makeover? Didn’t she used to be a blonde?
Kyla. You didn’t see either Buffy or Angel last week? They were kinda interwoven.
Buffy caught a spike from some rocker vamp in the opening scene. She wants to know what she can do to increase her odds. Every slayer dies sometime, but she wants to extend the expiration date. But Giles’ records have little info about slayers’ last battles. So she asks Spike, who has killed 2 slayers, how he did it.
So it goes back to when Spike was made (by Dru), in 1880s England. Man, did James Marsters (sp?) do some excellent acting in this show?! And then Spike has his gang through the years, including Angel. And he shows how he killed the 2 slayers, one in 1900 China, the other in 1970s NY (Spike doing a Billy Idol imitation). Neat directing, when it cut from Spike fighting the NY slayer, to demonstrating the moves to Buffy in the alley, voiceover over both scenes. Someone who knows something about filming could explain it better than I. Neat fact, Spike got his leather off the NY slayer after he killed her!
At the end, He shows his card to Buffy, shows he wants her, and she says he is beneath her. (Same thing some 1880s chick said just before he got made.) So he is going to shoot her with a shotgun (funny scene with Harmony), but when he goes to her house she is sitting on her back stoop crying, after just hearing her mom was going to the hospital. So he wimps out, sits down next to her and tries to comfort her.
The neat thing was Angel also included a number of flashbacks, but they would do the same scenes that had just been shown on Buffy from Spike’s experience, but from Angel’s point of view, and showing his experiences, leading up to when he met up with Spike. For example, before Spike got made by Dru, he bumped into a man and 2 women you only see from the back. In Angel, you see that that is Angel and his gals, and you see the whole scene before it happens. Kind of fun.
Dinsdale: 2. Can someone explain to me exactly what the distinctions are in Buffy land as far as how you turn into a vamp, as opposed to being simply killed when a vamp drains you? Or how long you can let a vamp nibble without being in danger?
You must be almost dead from blood loss before the vampire can change you into another vampire. Furthermore, you have to consume some of the vampire’s own blood. So usually a vampire needs a volunteer, not an unwilling victim. Spike’s siring was probably typical: Drusilla came upon William when his self-esteem had just taken a blow, and he needed to feel powerful.
Here’s the thing, though: When you become a vampire, you’re dead. Your soul flees into the ether, and a demon “spirit” (for lack of a better term) sets up shop in your body. The newborn vampire has your memories, your basic personality (except evil), but it’s not you. So you’ve nothing to gain by becoming a vampire; I would have hoped Riley understood this.
Dinsdale, in the Buffy universe, to become a vampire, one must die, and have consumed the blood of a vampire just prior to dying. This is usually accomplished by getting drained, taking a sip and crumpling to the floor.
Ben (?) (from the hospital) is indeed the guy that was almost attacked in the locker room. He is also the guy that Buffy talked to in the first episode this season when the crazy guy was brought into the hospital. He seems to be a recurring character now. I don’t like him.
Kyla, in the scene in which Angel bites Kate (the cop), he does so to allow her to play dead. If he hadn’t, then the demon with the guns would have shot her. She saw the demon as Angel bit her, so she caught on to what was happening. She has not become a vampire. So yes, at that moment, Angel was not as far gone as he seemed to be. However, he has tasted human blood again, which seems to be very disturbing to him.
Thanks for the explanation, Dinsdale. I did see Angel last week, but my dad (who watched both but scummily only managed to tape one) told me that it would have made more sense if I had seen Buffy. It didn’t not make sense, but I see what he meant now.
Theres a great episode guide here

This is where I go when I miss episodes. It’s very thorough. They are a week behind, but that’s ok for me, since the episodes that air in Canada are a week behind the US. I won’t be able to watch the Buffy episode you’re talking about until this Saturday.
Also, for a direct link to the episode where Buffy wanted to know about how Spike killed previous slayers, look here.

PS. For an equally thorough Angel guide, check this site out.

The last four episodes aired are listed as “Coming Soon”, so it doesn’t seem to be quite as up to date as the Buffy guide.
When we were watching Buffy last night, Pollo Boyo (a.k.a., my brother) pointed out something that I almost missed completely. Did anyone else notice that there were rays of sunshine coming into Buffy’s house and that Spike was walking right through them?
At first I thought it was indirect light because vamps are supposed to burn up in direct sunlight. But we both thought that it looked like the sunbeams were coming right through the window. If that’s the case, Spike should be a pile of ashes right now.
Not that we want him to be a pile of ashes – he’s our favorite character.
I have read spoilers that indicates he will have a special place in the storyline, so I’m assuming that he will become a more interesting character in the next few weeks.
Ya damn skippy!
You can’t kill Spike! He’s so Spike-ish and evil and yummy.
Kitty
Spoiler ahead…
Heh. Nailed this.
Last night on Buffy the Vampire Slayer:
Sarah Michelle Gellar had wild passionate sex with three vampires at the same time, then scremed “Buffy wouldn’t do that!” and stormed off the set, dragging her “I’m Prettier Than You!” sweatshirt behind her.
I love the Spike/Buffy thing, but Spike is almost getting too mushy for me. And the Riley thing is getting kind of dark and interesting. Last night he let another vampire drink from him without killing her (onscreen, anyway). He may get himself vamped if he starts believing Spike.
