She was the wife of “The Sundance Kid”, the famous bank robber who may (or may not) have been killed in Bolivia in 1906. All accounts place here in San Francisco in 1909, aftter which she disappears.
Given that she probably had several identities, it is reasonable to suppose that she decided to get out of the public eye, especially as she could have revealed the whereabouts of the Kid. Still, given modern DNA analysis, it would be possible to test the remains of those women supposed to be here-has anyone done this?
I’m not sure you’re allowed to dig up the remains of random women and DNA test them just out of random curiosity. Even if you could, given that Etta’s at best, a very minor footnote in history, why would anyone commit the money and time towards doing so?
Well, they tried finding the remains of the guys (killed in Bolivia); that search yielded no results. As for Etta-it would be interesting to know who she actually was.
What would you compare them to? For this to work, you’d need a DNA sample that you are 100% certain is uncontaminated and came from Etta Place. I’d be astonished if any such sample exists.
