What happened to liquor companies during Prohibition?

MAN do I ever miss Stroh’s ice cream. It is in the “holy trinity” of foods from my youth that I can’t get any more, along with the Better Mades and the ultimate beverage, Vernor’s.

Stroh’s Brewery in Detroit became a full-service soda fountain supply house, including making some very tasty ice cream which remained a sideline product well into the 80s. It proudly proclaimed a higher butterfat content than Håagen-Dazs (back when that would have been considered a selling point).

Wineries were allowed to make sacramental and kosher wines, again in “limited” quantities.

Dunno how “limited”, but Beaulieu Vineyards in California was making “over one million gallons per year” by the end of Prohibition (Beaulieu Vineyard - Wikipedia).
Funny, I was just at a seminar where an assistant winemaker from BV was telling the story of the Prohibition years.

Where did you move to? We still have Stroh’s Ice Cream and Vernors here in Michigan.

Wait. Vernors is not national? Crazy.
