Hello all,
Usually I’m good at finding the most obscure pop culture information online, but this one has had me stumped for years. During the late '90s, when swing music was a popular fad and a bunch of suit-wearing swing bands were coming out, there was a magazine called Swing Time that published articles on the various swing scenes in different cities, band interviews, album reviews, plenty of ads, and even retro-looking pin-up models. I only ever found it at one particular Barnes & Noble in Miami, Florida, except for one time when I was traveling in New Orleans and found an issue at the Tower Records there.
Obviously the swing scene has come and gone (although I still love it), and I’m sure the magazine folded many years ago. I don’t think they ever had a website, but I can’t find ANY information about them online. They might as well have not existed. I never even see back issues for sale on eBay! I have a few issues of the magazine (#6-11, from around 1997-99), and I wouldn’t mind picking up earlier and later ones if any are available. But it seems strange to me that even with a few of the better-known bands still around and plenty of abandoned “cobweb” sites still online, any references to Swing Time magazine have faded away completely.
Any ideas? Advice? Anecdotes? Fans of the magazine or the music, even?
