What happened to the ACE Awards?

Many of the nominations for the Emmy’s shouldn’t be eligible! They’re on CABLE!!! Isn’t (wasn’t) that the point of the ACE Awards?

With the advent of cable television and denial to be included in the Emmy Awards, the cable industry launched their own awards in 1979 with the Cable Ace. They eventually were allowed to be part of the Emmy’s in the 1987-1988 season but the Cable Ace Awards continued for some time, finally disbanding in 1997.

Once cable shows achieved parity with the broadcast ones, I imagine it was actually insulting to be forced into a separate category.
