Must the Emmy's go on????

They’ve cancelled it twice already…do they really need to have them??? I mean will ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ and Frasier dive in rating if they don’t snag that gagillionth award??? Why not cancel them altogether. Sure we could all use a little entertainment, but must we be forced to watch them LIVE! from …an army base???

Of course there is no need for them. In the grand scheme of things, the emmys is pretty darn pointless.

However, if you were CBS, yes you would want them to go on. CBS has paid $3million, IIRC, for the boradcast rights. They have also sold advertising for the show. If the show doesn’t air, then CBS is out the rights fee plus the lost advertising revenue.

What that means is that, most likely, the show will go on.

I dunno. I’m pretty interested in seeing everything toned down. With the red carpet tucked away, without Joan Rivers (shudder) to shove stupid questions at the celebrities, actresses not competing fashions. I’d have to see it to believe it.

What are the chances that it goes ahead with every B-list celeb in town offering tearful tributes at every interval, on stage or to interviewers?

CNN Headline News just reported that The Emmys will be on in the next 30 days. The details still need to be hammered out.

I’m with the guy who plays “Ed,” (Tom Cavanaugh?) who said that at this point they should just mail everyone their awards. I mean, talking about having them at a military base for security reasons? Please. Send people their statues and forget it.

CBS Television President Leslie Moonves and Academy of Television Arts & Sciences chairman Bryce Zabel need to stop allowing these selfish, cowardly celebrities to stop running from the shadows of their inflated self-worth. It is these people’s civic duty to help to instill confidence in the American public. No pre-taped ceremony from an undisclosed location. . . no acceptance speeches from New York. . . get on planes, get to the Shrine Auditorium, put on a show that celebrates all of the meaningless crap on television that we love every night. Just because you don’t feel like putting on this self-congratulatory bit of fluff doesn’t mean that we don’t want to see it. People haven’t stopped watching television, and if there was ever a time for celebrities to actually do some good, it is NOW!

Look to those who actually travelled to foreign countries to entertain troops. Do you imagine that there was LESS risk in doing that than putting on a show in a heavily guarded auditorium with security tighter than it is at airports? Do you imagine yourself more important? Get out of your ivory towers and do something to help. It is your civic duty.

I wish the Emmy’s would just stop. Period. Never to rise again. Same with most awards shows. Except the Oscars if they have Billy Crystal hosting. Then they can have them. But only them.

And don’t get me started on the Espy’s…[there needs to be a disgusted smilie so I can put one in here]
