What happened to the mother from A Child Called "It?"

I came across this book yesterday. I had heard of it before but never read it. I started skimming it and basically read the whole thing in about an hour. I wanted to kill the mother after about two pages.

Now, here is my question. The author, Dave Pelzer, describes being taken out of the home, but desn’t really say what happened to his mom after that. Does anybody know? Please tell me the bitch went to prison.

Damn, I didn’t know the tags didn’t work on the titles. Sorry.

From here

:frowning: I haven’t read his books but a co-worker did. She told me about them as she read each one. I don’t know if I could stomach reading it, maybe only because I know he ended up OK.

There are two other books that he wrote detailing his life after being removed from his home. One is A Man Called Dave, but I forget the other title. Anyway they’re worth checking out.

The Lost Boy is the second book.

Thanks for the info everybody. I’m sorry the mom didn’t go to prison but I’m glad she died alone.

I’ll check out those other two books.

Slainte, if you do decide to read it, keep something handy you can beat on. You’re going to want to break something.

Yeah, I also thought it was outrageous that she didn’t go to prison. As far as how her life ended, she reaped what she sowed.

I think I will put these books on my “To Read” list but first I’ll get myself a good, thick pillow to mash (I believe you, from what little I know of the book).

At least I know that he did make it out alive and turned out to be a healthy, happy person.

Yeah, that’s really the only thing that makes it possible to get through the book. :frowning:

On another message board I remembered someone saying that there have been questions about the veracity of Pelzer’s story.

I don’t have a cite for these quotes (since they were provided to me without a link by the poster at that mb) and I haven’t been able to find them in a quick search myself. But apparently the source is a story in the New York Times Magazine, dated July 28. (Not sure of what year. This?) Anyway, here are the quotes:

From a UK Paper Guardian:

And

As I understand it, the extent of the “nomination” was that he filled out the Pulitzer forms and submitted a $50 entry fee. Whoopee. Maybe I can do the same for my new novel, “Little Kitty Goes to the Vet”, and call it a Pulitzer nominee, too.

I couldn’t find anything to verify this article though. So, take it as you will…
