You mean AR; AK was the second-to-last state admitted ever, so don’t expect many new quarters after that.
I keep hearing about a Texas quarter, but haven’t seen one yet.
We just got our first Iowa quarter this week. That brought us up to date with all of them except the last one that’s getting released this year - Wisconsin?
Yeah, I gues that would be quite a surprise, huh!
They’re out there. I get the new ones in my change all the time.
If you really want one, try the bank. They usually have rolls of the new quarters available, or at least mine does.
According to the website, here’s the release schedule:
Michigan–01/26/04
Florida–03/29/04
Texas–06/01/04
Iowa–
Wisconsin–
Iowa should be current, with Wisconsin sometime later this month.
Uh, I hope you’re wrong here – I’d expect to see many new quarters, but only HI in terms of new designs, reverting back to the 1932 eagle or starting another reverse design after the 50 states are disposed of.
We’ve got Texas quarters everywhere. I’ve not seen an Iowa yet.
My question: do all those folks who bought the collectible quarter map of the US still actively use them? I remember that you couldn’t turn around without accidentally buying one of these things.
I still use mine. Although I’m sure that our landfills are littered with the things.
I got my first Texas quarter yesterday, but the new ones don’t seem to be showing up as quickly as they used to.
I have a coin book, which ends at 2003. I need to get a 2004 and after one now. In California, we don’t see too many Philadelphia coins though.
I’ve been saving two of each coin, in as near to mint as I could find. The nicer one gets mounted with its year group in a very nice frame that my mother picked. She and I work together on them, and the sets are our Christmas presents to each other. The cardboard maps seemed too flimsy to serve as a real heirloom.
I just got four Iowas today – one at Starbuck’s, three at Chipotle. You can usually find one or two high-volume retail businesses that get the new coins in as soon as they come out, and find good condition coins there around the week of issue. For example, back in 2000, I always got my new quarters at the McDonald’s on U. Maryland’s College Park Campus. If you’re reasonably good at fast mental arithmetic, you can cobble together an order that requires them to give you three quarters with your change, maximizing your chances of getting a new coin.
I don’t have the map (I thought it was cheesy looking) but I do have the only slightly less cheesy looking folders.
And yes, I still use them. (But it’s still nearly impossible for me to find Philadelphia quarters)
probably because Philadelphia isn’t a state?..
But is it, I think, a minting location…
I haven’t found a Texas quarter yet. I’m not saving each mint, I only bought the cheesy map that only allows for one quarter per state.
Speaking for Iowa, we have tons of the Iowa quarters around here. I found two in a handful of change (with only one other quarter). Banks are advertisting having them in mint condition for customers, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if banks here requested lots of them – maybe this is why the rest of the country doesn’t see as many?
Yes, we are! Actually the world’s largest coin mint is here, I believe Denver has the second biggest in the US. The quarters are distributed through the Federal Reserve system though, so I would think that if you’re near one of the 12 currency distribution centers (San Francisco is one also; the Bay Area probably has a decent pool of the quarters) you should be getting some quarters. Philadelphia is also a Fed Res city, in fact the US Mint & the Fed are a block away from each other. There’s a machine in a cool little “how currency is distributed” exhibit at the Fed here that’s currently issuing a shiny new TX for any quarter.
One of my favorite trivia questions: What’s the only state with TWO Fed Res currency distribution centers? (scroll)
Missouri: St. Louis and Kansas City
I have been getting a lot of them as well.
Ever thought about doing an IADope?
If you look closely at the quarters, you will see a little “P” or a little “D” showing which mint the quarter came from. I come across Denver quarters frequently, I’m having a hard time finding Philadelphia ones.
