What happens if Trump is indicted in Georgia? (Indicted on August 14, 2023)

I seem to recall that if there were no Willis, there would be no prosecution.

(“were”. Was “were” proper there, or should it have been “was”? Like Don Was.)

Then this has been DOA from jump, although that wasn’t known early on.

What, is she the ONLY honest prosecutor in Fulton County?

“Were” is correct! Yay, subjunctive!

English is fucking hard, and I’ve been speaking it my whole life.

I too recalled reading something along these lines at one point. I was able to pull up the following AP article. Please note the article is from January so does not include the most recent happenings in the case.

From that article…

If McAfee decides to take similar action and to remove Willis and her office from the election case, it would be up to the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia to find another prosecutor to take the case. That person could continue on the track that Willis has taken, could choose to pursue only some charges or could dismiss the case altogether.

Finding a prosecutor willing and able to take on the sprawling case could be difficult, former Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter said. Only a few district attorneys in the state — all around Atlanta — have the resources to handle such a case, he said.

So if I’m reading this correctly it sounds like another prosecutor would have to be found that would be willing and able to take the case. If Willis is removed as prosecutor, there appears to be a not insignificant chance that this entire case simply disappears into the ether.

And apparently not just another prosecutor (person), another whole DA office ? There being no Georgia State Prosecutions Department that can just command-relieve Willis on a specific case with someone else.

They finally achieved the hat trick of delaying every single remaining trial. The DC January 6th trial is waiting on the Supreme Court, and will possibly be remanded back to lower courts for further delay with no progress permissible until there is a final ruling. Cannon is pushing the Florida classified documents trial further and further and further out every time she makes any kind of ruling, which she slow walks as much as possible. And now the Georgia election interference trial, which was always going to be a long slog, is on hold until probably March next year, the judge instructed to make absolutely no progress of any kind in the meantime.

When is the Supreme Court expected to make their immunity ruling? Some time this month, yes?

one of the thursdays in june. so, today, the 16th, 20th and 27th; possibly.

Because the answer to the problem of populism…is more populism!

Or, you know, just de-politicize things. Pass laws that force competitive districts, require broad appeal to win elections, and ensure that the Electoral College acts less like a rubber stamp for state populists and, instead, acts like a hiring committee of serious individuals with a duty to their fellow countrymen.

Truth, Justice, Freedom, Reasonably Priced Love, and a Hard-Boiled Egg!

I’d also like a pony.

Damn. Mom tells me she can remember when it was a whole chicken in every pot.

(honk)

Make that two hard boiled eggs.

That’s a Terry Pratchett reference? IIRC, the egg in question is shafted by an arrow before it hits the ground.

Yep. Right there in the Cemetery of Small Gods.

Is my Aunt Minnie in here?

The insufferable aspect/unavoidable conclusion of this Wade/Willis affair is that it simply does have the possibility of derailing a hugely important case.

Had they just remained platonic friends … maybe taken in a ball game … gone out for coffee a couple Sundays a month … attended a charity ball together … even just gone out for A Night At The Opera … we could be in a very different place now.

Marx my words.

Then the Republicans would still say that they were having an affair and that that was somehow unfair and therefore Trump is absolutely innocent of everything ever.

(and yes, I do see what you were doing there)

Except I’d go so far as to say it’s common for at least one, if not more than one, lawyer in a prosecutor’s office to have a relationship with another.

It shouldn’t fucking matter.

In no way is it relevant to the prosecution of the crime. In no way does it prejudice the defendant. In no way should it ever derail the justice system.

This is an embarrassment to the profession.

Welcome to Georgia, Texas, Alabama, the current US Supreme Court, …
