If the REPORT on the Presidential Election Fraud which took place in Georgia is not completely complete, why did Fani Willis issue it?
There’s a report - it contains the same debunked lies that he is charged with using.
From what I saw, the news people were reacting to a photo that had been taken of the cover sheet to the indictments (prior to the details being publicly released), which had the number 10 on it.
According to the Washington Post, there was a total of 41 charges contained in the indictment, and 19 different defendants were charged. I don’t believe that any of the indictees were charged with every single one of the 41 counts; Trump was charged on 13 counts.
I think the news was reporting on how many packets were handed to the judge to sign by the clerk of court, assuming they were individual indictments. That’s my take, anyway. The “ten indictments” started appearing immediately after the judge signed a stack of indictments, but possibly/probably the stack included other unrelated indictments returned by the grand jury or multiple copies, or something.
To be fair, maybe he had trouble booking space at Four Seasons Total Landscaping.
I think you’re right. Checking the news, I see reports of “ten indictments” around midday yesterday, but then every later report calls it one indictment. I suspect that was erroneous information based on an assumption or misunderstanding by members of the press, and then cleared up once the documents became public.
And those accusers will of course howl that the evil persecutors of their orange hero are lying, lying LYING!
Let’s be real though. If Trump becomes President again he’s not going to pardon his way out of 3/4 of his indictments and get caught by the fourth one because he’s not allowed to dismiss it. Rules are for other people and if Trump is elected again, goodbye rules.
Lawyers from outside of Georgia can be admitted to practice there pro hac vice – for that particular case.
One thought, so far Trump has showed up for all of his arraignments but those were all Federal. Presuming a sufficient amount of narcissism to believe that you’ll get elected again before the trial goes to court, Federal threats are non-threats.
In the case of Georgia, he doesn’t have the same avenues of escape. He’s also being charged by a black woman which I’d take as being fairly odorous to Trump. I’d put it as a non-zero chance that he declines to fly to Georgia for his arraignment.
In that case, I’d assume that he’d have a warrant put out on him that would effectively make any domestic travel (e.g. campaigning) a potentially dangerous activity.
For the sake of completeness.
Probably wishful thinking, but would failure to surrender and a subsequent arrest warrant in GA violate his conditions in the DC case where he was told any further violations of law could result in his being held pending trial?
If he should get elected, pardons will be the least of America’s concerns.
Oh no, the rules will definitely still apply. He’s not being elected emperor. (That’s the same thing I had to remind people after the 2016 election, it’s funny that I’m still having to say this on the board.)
Now, what it would almost certainly do is create a constitutional crisis. So I do agree with the idea that he wouldn’t absolutely be in jail as POTUS. That is something that the country would need to figure out.
But the idea that he suddenly becomes omnipotent if reelected despite a Georgia conviction is a fantasy. If anything, he’d have less power the second time around, because he’d be facing much more fierce opposition to anything he tried to do.
i counted 9-10 clumps that the judge flipped as he was going through the big stack. he then jogged the clumps together, and handed the stack to the clerk. he then handed her the one page he signed.
from what was said by vance on msnbc last night about breaking down the big case into chapters, perhaps each clump was a “chapter” of various charges?
the way she explained how she dealt with complex cases was very understandable.
THANK you. I couldn’t agree more.
If Trump is convicted on state charges and then gets elected president and attempts to employ pardon powers he doesn’t have, it’ll go beyond just a crisis; it could create a national schism so significant that it might plausibly end up leading to civil war.
What a depressing thought, that this smug doughy loser could precipitate such political violence.
But this is starting to go beyond the scope of the thread so I’ll leave it at that.
I was going to object but you’re right; this thread is about what would happen if Trump were indicted (which he now has been). It’s a whole other discussion about what would happen if he were convicted. That seems like it might be a topic worthy of discussion, especially as we get closer to trial on some of these indictments.
I agree that if it were entirely up to Trump, the percentage would not only be non-zero, but possibly in the low double digits. I’m 99% sure that his lawyers will explain attending (after repeated requests for delay for his campaigning) as a tactic where he can go and get his ego stroked by all the people, with tears in their eyes, waving and supporting him as he makes an imperial visit and leaves in glorious triumph. That 1% though, where he gets even more mule-ish and blows it off would get very interesting.
Especially (was it in this thread or one of the many others) as Florida indicated it could/would slow roll any efforts on behalf of the feds/other states, and similar concerns for other states Trump could/would visit…
Still, I think the odds are extremely good that he’ll show and do a (witness tampering and barely veiled threat-laden) campaign rally at or near the courthouse. Which could put him right back in the hotseat for pre-trial confinement on any number of cases. Interesting times.
Yes.
He can’t be violated for new accusations of past conduct (I.e. this new indictment), but failure to appear wound constitute a new law violation.
