What happens to the Books of Condolences?

As you may know, the leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada passed away this week. There is going to be a state funeral in Toronto, and people have been signing books of condolences at various locations around the country.

What happens to these books of condolences? Will the family read them? Do they go to the estate, or end up in a museum, or what?

They usually go to the family and I suspect they read them at some point. I’m not sure what happens to them in a case of a famous person. I suppose it depends on the family’s wishes.
