Trump doesn’t care about what’s good for America.

Prediction: By the end of the term, one or more of the Trump family will be among the 10 richest people.
[/QUOTE]
No way. That simply isn’t going to happen. I don’t think you realize what the gap is between the total amount of the Trump fortune (including ALL of their family members) and the folks who are in the top 10. The entire Trump fortune would have to increase 10 fold to put them in the top 10 and that’s simply not going to happen. Trump and all his family, for perspective, isn’t even in the top 100 (which is hovering at a bit over $12 billion). I doubt they will even get THERE in either 1 or 2 terms.
My take on the economy is that the expansion has been very long because growth has been pretty subdued (i.e. sustainable). To get a recession, you need some excess to recess from. Trump will probably give us that excess, in the form of massive deficit spending.
What’ll be interesting is seeing how the political cost and benefit get apportioned. I assume that when growth kicks into unsustainably high gear, Trump and the GOP will take a victory lap on how they’ve unleashed the economy from Obama’s socialist shackles. I just hope it works out that they also reap the blame when it comes crashing down.
Just as a follow up since I was curious, Trump is currently at 336 in the world.
Doesn’t mean he won’t try.
I can’t see how he could even try for a 10 fold (minimum) increase in his wealth. If he could do that, well, he’d be a financial wizard or crook on such a cosmic scale that it’s hard to even fathom. The implication from the post seems to be he and his family would get there by theft or corruption, but the President and his family will be under a microscope, and no one is going to fail to notice theft/corruption on that scale. If the poster had said Trump et al would become richer, well, I’d go for that. They MIGHT get the the $5-6 billion mark, reasonably, through his new found network and position…but to $40+ billion? Just not happening.
I was absolutely implying that they would get there through corruption. Mostly (I think) through sweetheart deals.
I see your point about how much it would take to get from 336 to 10 on the list. When I said that I actually didn’t realize the span was so wide. Nonetheless, if you have a president willing to engage in influence peddling, sweetheart deals, and whatever else he thinks he can get away with, what do you think that’s worth? Certainly billions over a 4 year period.
As to being under a microscope, from what we’ve seen I am not sure it matters. Tex returns? Fuck you. Who holds your debt, and how much? Fuck you. Worried about conflict of interest? Fuck you. AND, anyway they don’t apply. Fuck you twice
And still, many many people support him.
So while I might have overshot the mark a bit, I stand by the statement that the Trump family wealth will grow massively. And since we don’t know what it is NOW, we won’t even be able to know how much it grows. Fuck you.
*For the record, in case it isn’t clear, none of the Fuck Yous in this post are actually directed at the posters. That’s my channeling Trump’s Fuck Yous to the nation.
don the con after the 2016 election is a different animal from before. He is a brand and he used the equity of that brand in order to run for president, and to alienate huge numbers, looking like a majority of voters. He is at some kind of war with his own party, the other party, actors, beauty pageant contestants, random citizens, etc etc.
He is coming in under clouds of corruption and lying. Even if he doesn’t do it he will be suspected. I don’t envy being a trump in the future.
That’s good. I’m going to feel that he’s a piss fetishist and an owned Russian stooge. Nothing’s going to ever change my mind on that.
Which one most accurately reflects what % of adults just ages 18-65 are employed? We should use that one, it’d reveal the “true” unemployment rate as it rises or falls.
Numbered Swiss bank accounts.
No one will have a chance to “notice” the looting Trump will be doing. (What, you think he’s going to declare his take on his taxes???)
This is the most sagacious post so far. Trump has already shown that his response to slights, real or perceived, is to twitter away with his tiny thumbs like an partiucularly immature eight-year-old girl. Of course he is going to respond to disagreement and obstruction by tweeting, and/or trying to make transparently scammy deals that will fool exactly no one who isn’t dedicated to further invaginating their torso into their rectum. His coterie of professional apologists, however, will remain busy morning, noon, and night trying to rationalize why the Great Orange One is incapable of actually following through on any of the ill-defined policies and promises he campaigned on, from deporting millions of immigrants to building a wall with Mexico, and he’ll be too focused on responding to “play-actors” and “has been failed politicians” to actually contribute anything of substance to his own defense.
Sad.
Straner
Sadder still, Stranger, is that as bad as Trump is, his supporters have decided his behavior is OK with them. And I have yet to hear a cogent explanation or defense of his behavior. Which has really damaged the esteem I have for my fellow countrymen. I thought we were better than him.
Exactly so. It’s not so much that so many rubes have fallen for Donald “Lyle Lanley” Trump, it’s that the con is so transparent and so obviously wish fulfillment on their part.
Yeah, guys in West Virginia want jobs in the coal mine. I understand that. But they’re not going to get those jobs. And they know it, I guess. But they’re willing to vote for a guy who SAYS they’re going to get those jobs, not because they think he’s going to get them those jobs, but because it allows them to daydream for a few minutes about those jobs coming back. It’s like buying a lottery ticket and dreaming about the mansion and the yacht you’re going to buy if you win, while still knowing that you’re not going to win.
