My favorite little bakery was offering free delivery to my neighborhood, but not my sisters. She wanted to try them, so I ordered a dozen delivered, then gave most to her. Then they announced yesterday that they were closing for the duration of state shutdown, as it wasn’t financially feasible to remain open.
So I placed a “help clear the trays” order that I picked up.
Tomorrow I will be receiving a shipment of cat food, birdseed, and critter food.
I was going to do grocery delivery, but current deliveries are a week out and I have a fair amount of clients who work for their delivery service who I would rather not know where I live. I’ve taken to driving by the stores in my neighborhood, looking to see which has the fewest cars in the lot, and going there.
A local hole-in-the-wall just opened a new location (perfect timing!) all of 2 blocks away. We’ve been trying to order through their drive-thru a couple of times a week. Support local business and damned good food to boot!
Nothing so far. I’ve been trying restaurants I’ve never tried before every Friday, but I’ve been going to pick it up. I haven’t ordered any non-food items either, but I’m looking at getting a fish to help liven up my boring living area, lol. Just a betta or something.
That would be a fish as a pet, right? Not fish as an entree?
So far I still haven’t ordered any ready-to-eat food, but I’m getting lot of vicarious jollies reading about other people’s takeout food. (I’m a simple woman, easily amused.)
I’d normally been getting groceries delivered anyway due to time constraints and lifting capacity (I have arthritic hips, DH is still recovering from a broken leg). Did expand my Instacart horizons to Costco, since I do have a membership and we needed some OTC stuff. Getting a fair amount from Amazon in the household category that I might normally have picked up in person and making use of other merchants’ shipping, since I’ve been quarantined since the 20th.
We’ve ordered pizza a couple of times and a couple of other fast-food options on other occasions, but I do try to keep that under control for waistline and budget reasons.
Nothing. More and more, any chance I get to avoid contact with the outside world is the option I’m choosing. And actually what I could really go for is a big fat antipasto salad from Dom’s. Got plenty of greasy stuff here, dying for fresh veggies.
Personally, I’ve noticed an increased craving for pizza. I haven’t ordered any yet, but since 3/18 I’ve bought four frozen pizzas and today I only have one left. Now, I like pizza as much as the next chick, but that’s a *lot *more pizza than I’d normally consume in 2 weeks!
I’m still trying to avoid carbs. I lost 70 pounds, but I’ve gained back 20 since last Summer. There are many carb-rich foods I crave, but I’ve been successful avoiding them. But last night, we just needed pizza.
For social distancing, the delivery guy left it at the front door. I added the tip when I ordered, and they marked the receipt ‘CA’ (customer authorisation) so I didn’t have to sign it. The delivery guy waited about 16 feet away to make sure I got the pizza, and I thanked him.
Been getting groceries delivered, several times now. Whole foods delivers groceries, but not beer. Dopey me didn’t stock up on beer before this all started, so when reserves ran low late last week I resorted to ordering a a 24-bottle sampler set from these guys. Doorbell video/sound showed the UPS delivery person dropping it pretty hard on our front porch; I was pleasantly surprised to find that the 24 bottles had been packed in cardboard racks that separated them from each other and from the outer walls of the box by maybe an inch, so all survived intact. With delivery it worked out to $3 a bottle, which I can live with under these circumstances.
We’ve been having groceries delivered for several weeks now. We empty the bags/boxes on the front porch, cart the stuff in and put it on an isolated mobile island in the kitchen, then wash everything with soapy water or a disinfectant, moving it to a clean surface as we go.
Last night we finally caved and ordered a pizza. They left it on the porch. I took my pizza peel outside, opened the box with a gloved hand and scooped the 18" pie out. Took it inside and stuck it under the broiler for a few minutes, leaving the box on the porch.
I feel slightly silly taking these sorts of precautions, but I’d feel a lot more foolish if I got sick.
Oregon’s curve is apparently already flattening, as people are taking this seriously here. As seniors, we are being hyper-vigilant. Hell, we don’t even retrieve our mail until the day after it’s delivered.
We have a garage, which is very helpful under the circumstances. Mail and packages get sorted in the garage into one of 4 piles: Things mice might enjoy, which go on the back seat of my car, and mail goes into boxes marked Monday/Thursday, Tuesday/Friday, or Wednesday/Saturday, followed by hand cleansing. Thus, tomorrow I’ll sort and open the mail in the Tuesday/Friday box, bring it into the house, then put Friday’s mail in the box.
We haven’t ordered takeout yet. Lovely wife has a lot of food intolerances so we normally go to just a few restaurants; for now, we’re cooking at home. I’ve lost 5-6 pounds since March 1.
