What have you ‘ordered in’, so far?

Groceries, several times - and delivery slots are getting hard to get. I made sure to get a jumbo bag of Twizzlers and one of Hershey’s Kisses with this last order; we haven’t yet broken into them. I figure that’ll be in a couple more weeks.

A few household items we wouldn’t normally have bothered with (just got a bunch of cloth napkins, to reduce our dependence on disposables).

Some cloth face masks from Decent Exposures. Can’t hurt, might help, it’s a Seattle-based business and their production facilities are shut down of course - but they must have made enough masks that they still have them to sell (plus they are donating masks for every one sold).

Some foaming soap dispensers (have not yet arrived) and liquid Castile soap to use in same. Some sprayer bottles to make disinfectant spray using that bottle of 91% isopropyl we happened to already have on hand.

A hand truck… though that was sent directly to my daughter in Vermont, since this whole virus thing put the kibosh on my travelling up there to help her do the move. She has found it extremely useful so far.

Put it in the trash can or recycling bin.

I have severe COPD and my partner is over 65 with diabetes and some other factors, we’re both considered very high risk so we’re getting all delivered. Groceries and meals mostly so far, we want to be ready if one or both of us fall ill so the freezer is stocked with single serve things. Cooking from fresh is hard when not shopping for yourself to your standards so we’re trying out different meal delivery services and spreading the money around. So many restaurants and catering companies have entered the field that we are spoilt for choice. We qualify for priority delivery from a major supermarket who have stopped general deliveries to keep up with those isolated.by this beast.

You’re under the same roof with a giant bag of Twizzlers and you haven’t opened it yet?? You are a strong woman… <awestruck>

I discovered these Raisels, raisins dusted with sour candy powder and they are fantastic! You know how you always think raisins are going to be a treat (like when you used to get them in your lunch bag), but they’re a disappointment? Unless they’re in a cinnamon roll or oatmeal cookie or something. Well THESE are fantastic. And I have 60 of the little baggies all my very own. (Well, I started with 60 two days ago…) They’re sweet-sour-chewy–really good. The delivery was quite prompt–two days. Maybe amazon deemed them essential.

But it seems like some people are afraid to go outside pretty much at all.

What then?

Be strong, my friend.

Somewhat apropos of the topic: I checked my local grocery store delivery options about an hour ago (5:50 am) and the soonest delivery time AND curbside pickup time were two weeks from today! So just for grins, I checked Whole Foods and the next delivery time was TODAY in about two hours-- what? So I put in my modest order and got a “your shopper has completed your order” message just a little while ago. I think I just slipped into an open slot. I was considering going TO the store, but I’m glad I won’t have to now.

Have other Dopers noticed a lack of Chinese food takeout availability? All our local/nearby outlets have closed.

Seems like this is happening around the country.

Haven’t got anything delivered yet. Mostly we can get pizza and kepab, which is not so interesting. When I checked last night, the mexican and asian places weren’t taking orders. Just checked again, and it seems they have a very small window for deliveries - just 18:30 - 20:00. So I could order now for dinner.

I’ll check back later this week to see if any of the asian places deliver for lunch as well.

I still can’t bring myself to order takeout. I know they say the COVID doesn’t survive on food but I’m not at the point where I can eat something prepared by a stranger.

This all conflicts with my desire to help out struggling businesses. Maybe I’ll purchase some local restaurant gift cards for future use.
mmm

Nice idea.

I’ve gotten delivery a couple more times since my first post in this thread – a repeat of my Ted’s Bulletin order, and last night I got breakfast-for-dinner from Silver Diner – but mostly I’m here to share that I just ordered a bouquet of flowers. For myself.

You know all those things we send to other people when they’re either sick or celebrating something? It occured to me the other day that those of us who are lucky enough to still be working/able to afford it should consider treating ourselves! I’m not usually one for flowers in the house, but I also don’t usually spend this much time in the house: they’ll arrive on Tuesday, and I’m looking forward to the color and scent. Fancy flowers, Edible Arrangements, Spoonful of Comfort, etc. – all are options for self-care during these times.

For my fellow Parks & Rec fans: “Treat yo self!”

Too bad Baskin-Robbins doesn’t deliver. Some of their World Class Chocolate would be good right about now. (Too rainy/windy here to go out even if conditions were normal.)

I know of at least one that does…

Good for you!

Nine years ago when I moved into this house, I started buying flowers for myself at the grocery store every week (or whenever the current bouquet dies, sometimes 10 days). Why not? I usually spend $8 -$12. These days every grocery store has a flower department with assembled bouquets or mix & match. Before lockdown set in, my last bouquet was a bunch of eucalyptus leaves, which is a good thing, because after three weeks, they’re still presentable.

I keep them in a vase on my dresser, because I don’t let my cats in the bedroom at night, and I learned the hard way that leaving an innocent, unprotected vase of flowers on the dining room table all night within reach of potentially bored cats was a bad idea. Went through several vases before I figured that out. :smack:

Thanks! They arrived yesterday, and they look great. For the past few weeks I’ve been spending a little recklessly – donating to fundraisers, giving online tips to local musicians and wait staffs, supporting restaurants/small businesses, etc. – and I need to start reining that in, but I could see the bouquet thing being a regular habit while I’m teleworking. I already have several vases, and getting just the flowers isn’t expensive.

Thanks for this recommendation - just ordered a few face masks for my family, and it’s nice to support a small business.

Update: in the past two weeks, ore and more places around me are shutting down even food delivery - my options are shrinking drastically…

I just ordered some cloth caps from them and 10 face masks for them to donate where needed. I have someone locally who’s making masks, so didn’t need them for me.

Dang - where’s the LIKE button

I didn’t order any for donation the first time around - not sure whether that was an option (though their website said they would donate one for every one purchased). When I ordered two for my daughter up in Vermont, there was a specific spot to order for donation so I added one to the cart.

Evidently that one is going to some place in Arizona :).
