What household chore would you do every day in order to avoid doing around the house?

js, a friend and I were discussing the concept of ‘putting stuff away when you’re done with it’. Neither of us are convinced it’s possible. We understand major cleaning and tidying binges, but to… use something, and then put it back? Sounds crazy.

I would love to do this. I can easily do that much cooking. In fact, I do do this, but without the corollary of not having to wash the dishes.

I love tasks like cleaning out a fridge. And cleaning the stovetop and tub is no sweat!

I know! I mean, what if you need it again in a minute?

My husband wants to chain things down so I can’t take them away from their homes. “Want to vacuum the rug? Bring it here!”

I’ll happily do all the laundry and wash the dishes (by hand, yet - I don’t have a dishwasher) if only someone else would clean the bathroom and scoop the litter boxes.

<snort> You dust? I just keep the lights off.

I’ll do the laundry, and iron, and vacuum, and dust, if someone else does the dishes.

And just generally keeps the place straight.

Putting away laundry, I’m good at. The rest of it - not so good.

Oh, and someone who would do the windows would be nice too.

I’ll take care of the yard (cutting grass, edging, weeding the flowerbeds, etc…) if you take care of the inside of the house…

I can spend all day in the yard, but freaking hate housework…

I’m with Dinsdale…there’s nothing I really hate. I’m just lazy. But I will scoop the kitty litter if I never have to dust again. The wife does the dishes, I take out the garbage, we both do laundry and vacuum. But dusting is just not up there on my list of priorities.

I can handle cleaning bathrooms every day in exchange for ironing. Gah - I hate ironing! I always manage to burn myself.

I buy clothes based specifically on whether or not they have to be ironed. I hate ironing. If I really like it, and it absolutely has to be ironed, it goes to the dry cleaners.

I do windows!!! But that is it.

I’ll do all that dirty, wet, messy stuff like cleaning bathrooms (I love the clean smell of bleach and disinfectand, and it’s very satisfying) if I could get somebody else to simply tidy up the house for me. I can clean but not tidy up. I never know where to start, and I usually end up a few minutes into it finding an old book and reading it.

Ain’t gonna be me, because I’m exactly like you!

Dammit! Now we need to find two finishers. No, wait. If we find one, we can share.

Is there anyone who would happily clean an oven?

And both you and freckafree are in OH… would you be interested in helping a Spaniard immigrate? I can put stuff away just fine.

I’ll feed the dog if someone will pick up the minefield of shit that is my backyard.

You could stop feeding the dog.

Put a cookie sheet under everything you cook in the oven, cover all spills with salt and wipe up as soon as possible.

If the oven does have to be cleaned, use a paste of baking soda and water left on overnight, then wipe up the goop.

Honestly? I’m 31 years old and have never cleaned an oven. I don’t get it. Why do ovens have to be cleaned? I just looked in mine, and it looks clean. I put a cookie sheet under anything that I’m worried about spilling or bubbling over (like pies and casseroles) and any stray bits of cheese that fight their way to the bottom just burn off the next time I use the oven. What’s to clean?

I use oven cleaner for the grill, but I’ve never used it in an oven.

This makes me feel so much better about the fact that my vacuum cleaner has been sitting in my dining room for a week!
