I was reading quotes from the Marquis De Sade while I was working and it ocured to me that I find the man’s nature repugnant , but his intellect was a well maintained and sharpened tool. I admire his intellect so much, that I find myself using his quotes out of context. I disagree with the death penalty so I use his quote, that he uses to save his own butt, “Til the infallibility of human judgement shall have been proved to me, I shall demand the abolition of the penalty of death.” He made this statement because he was a prime candidate for said punishment in eyes of his government, until his wife had him committed for being, well, Sadistic. He has many more quotes that fuel this ambivalent feeling I have towards him. Has anyone here experienced a situation such as this? If you have it would be my pleasure to read about it.
Huh. I was half-expecting questions about “Diamond Life.”
“Coast to coast, LA to Chicago…”
Emphasis mine.
Interesting choice of words to describe the Marquis De Sade.
Indeed, I’m sure it lent to how creative he was.
+1
Yeah, I was all set for the same thing.
Well shucks. I was hoping to attract people who were interested in sharing stories about finding admirable qualities in a person whose character is, at best, questionable. Maybe later huh?
Do you know who ELSE some people find admirable qualities in?
I’m biting down on that one. :eek:WHO?
Lots of brilliance from people with morally questionable behavior. The Declaration of Independence, for instance.
