What would happen, in the extremely unlikely event a Mod posted things that got them banned? Has it happened?
Then the mod is banned. I’m not sure I understand the question exactly. And yes, the situation did happen come up once in the very early days of the board.
They wouldn’t be able to post on the board anymore, like anyone else who is banned.
No one who was currently a mod has been banned. In the very distant past there was a case of a former moderator who ended up later being banned.
I’m sure a few Mods were banned on The Day Marley Banned Everybody.
Question for clarification, Marley?
It would seem the logical path that, unless the mod just goes apeshit and gets banned for hate speech or whatever, there would be a process involved, like when a regular member is banned.
As regular posters, we get mod notes and the like. Then, if the poster doesn’t correct his behavior, it goes to warnings, then suspensions, on down the line.
I would imagine that, following that model, that said moderator would be removed from his post as a condition of punishment for violating board rules. And that it would happen before an actual banning would happen.
Is that the case? Kinda like how cops are placed on administrative leave in the aftermath of a shooting?
None of us could post either while that was going on.
We don’t have a formalized procedure for what we would do in that situation, but yes, that’s what I would expect.
Fair enough for me.
Superdude’s theory is what I assumed. I asked merely because I wondered the mechanism to replace someone in a position of authority.
It’s usually a coup followed by a Reign of Terror.
Related question: Could a mod ban themselves?
Nice try.
I was once a Mod on a different board, and one fine day I found my fellow Mods had locked me out because I was being, in their words, “an obnoxious fucktard.” Surprising, huh? I continued to post under a sock I’d hidden away, and eventually got sussed out via my unique posting style and favorite subjects. Also surprising, huh?
My memory is fuzzy, but wasn’t Satan a mod at one point? Or was he just prolific early on?
No.
They wouldn’t need to be replaced. They’d just be banned and that would be the end of it.
The one time it happened, referenced above, the moderator was removed from her post over one matter. She was later banned over an unrelated matter. This was long, long before there was any formalized procedure of mod notes, warnings, suspensions, or the like.
If a moderator committed a severe enough offense, they could potentially be banned immediately just like any other poster. For lesser offenses, it would be likely that they would simply be asked to step down as a moderator long before they were candidates for banning.
He was a mod here back in the day, but his screenname was Lucifer before Ed Zotti cast his ass out of here.
Funny line but no, Satan was not a staffer here. Ever.
Though he did tell me once that he deserved to be a moderator “because I’m the most popular guy here.”
Ask Giraffe, he got banned at the snackpit.
