Not to hijack, but at least the plate frames are easy to remove. What’s really shitty is when they glue or drill holes to screw or bolt their emblem/badge onto the car. I would never buy a car from a dealer that does that, unless it comes with a significant discount and/or they pay me a monthly fee to advertise for them.
I have the one from the dealer. I don’t normally care about license plates, but I do occasionally get a pang to buy a low number license plate that qualifies for a retro black and white small plate in Delaware. It’s kind of a status symbol there.
I never got a dealer frame and if I had I wouldn’t use it. But then I won’t wear clothes with with text or logos on them either - I’m not interested in making statements via image or text, even if they’re not advertising other people’s brands for free.
No frame at all. They are just visual clutter that interfere with the clean look of the car.
Some vehicles are just a transportation utility, others are more like a good fashion style. “Man that looks nice but, dude! You shouldn’t wear those shoes with those pants!” And on some nicer cars a license plate frame just sticks out like you have no fashion sense at all.
I actually thought about including that as a little caveat. I can understand not wanting to remove the stickers or emblems because people might fear it could damage the car (and it can if you’re not careful), but the frames are a different story.
None. I remove them as soon as possible - like others have said, no free advertising for the dealer, and no one laughing at me for getting chumped by such-and-such dealer.
One exception on one of our cars, as the front plate was damaged and has a sharp edge, which would snag legs as you walked-by in our garage. So, I left the dealer plate on there to cover the sharp edge. I am either too lazy or too cheap to purchase something for that when I have a free option available. At least it is in the front and presumably seen less often.
Some PD cars have square boxes mounted on the truck at a 45° angle; these are automated license plate readers. They can be used for things like seeing what car has valid registration or if that vehicle is wanted. I’ve also seen one on a private vehicle. It was owned by a repo firm to make it easier for them to drive thru the neighborhood & find any car that they were looking for.
Two of the three have never applied to me, but registration must be renewed yearly & this @#$%& state sends out the renewal 90 days in advance. No way I’m giving them money that early, so I have forgotten to do it on time in some years past.
For those not familiar, DE plates can be sold for big bucks!
Dealership on both, though I eventually want to get one that says Indiana Pacers and the other that says Indianapolis Colts. The plates themselves already have the Washington Nationals “curly W” logo on them.
I’m another one who would never leave the rat bastard dealership’s name on my car. My current one is the Cheshire cat. Too bad I (stupidly) didn’t realize it would have the Disney trademark on it. I don’t like advertising for those rat bastards either.
We recently got a new minivan and the dealer sticker came off straight away the moment we got it home (so the sun wouldn’t bake it on and make removal more difficult), and the dealer plate frame lasted about a week. The plate is now framed by chrome bones, with a row of skulls and flames across the bottom. I basically walked into Autozone and asked myself, “Which of these frames are least likely to be found on a minivan?”
Awesome post / username combo:p
The dealer will take the sticker or the frame off themselves if you make a fuss about it.
It’s framed by a car.
I still have the dealer plate on there. That dealership is no longer around, so whatever free advertising I gave them didn’t work.
No frame for me. I took the dealer’s off.
There are regulations about frames and coverage here in Tejas, so some of the decorative frames are illegal. I’m too lazy to measure and figure it out, so I just removed them all. My truck has no slogans/stickers or decorations at all. My car has a faded old “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” decal.
Mine is the Saint Louis Rams, yes I know they are in LA now.
That’s OK; I know someone who still runs one for the Pittsburgh Pipers basketball team. I swear he must have bought a case of them to keep coming up with a new one every 10 years or so. :smack:
When I finally got off my duff and completed my MA, my son bought me an “Alumni of” plate frame which I still use.
When my daughter was little, I made a frame that said “Lois’s Dad” on top and “That’s my girl” on the bottom. It was on the back of the pick up truck we hauled the camp trailer with. I didn’t realize what an impression it had made on her until one father’s day when, as an adult, she wrote a poem for me and mentioned that frame. Happy cried buckets I tell you.
I honestly don’t know. There might be a frame from the dealer on it, but I’m on a business trip and won’t see the car until this weekend.
