What If...? (Disney+ Series) [Open Spoilers After First Post]

I liked this episode. I agree it was basically one extended joke, but I didn’t think it quite got over-extended. Plus, I actually thought Jane and Thor had real chemistry in this episode, which I thought the live action actors completely lacked in the movies.

I think it started way before that. When Odin returned Loki to his people there seemed to be genuine good feelings between Jotenheim and Asgard. And what is the first thing Friga does when her husband goes into his Odinsleep? She peaces out to her sister’s for some girlfriend time. Seems like this Thor grew up in a nine realms that’s alot more laid back than the one we’re used to seeing. It’s not really a surprise that the “kids” growing up in this universe we’re more prone to partying. Robots and all.

I’m now imagining someone decked out in Stones like a disco ball.

What happens at the TVA holiday party stays at the TVA holiday party.

So Chris Evans playing Cap with his Johnny Storm personality?

I think I am in a parallel universe because I am literally watching the Thor episode as I type this and it is so awful I am wondering if I should just turn it off. I think I just don’t like Jokey Thor.

If Ultron exists in this universe that implies Tony Stark/Iron man created him. So, that implies some version of the Avengers does, too. You would think they would be involved with an Alien Party People invasion of Earth.

Iron Man shows up and says, “Someone threw a party and didn’t invite me? Not cool.”

The Watcher was surprised by the appearance of Ultra-Vision. I don’t think he came from the Party Universe.

I didn’t think that was a particularly great episode. It was a joke that took too long to get to the punch line. But it seems to have been quite popular.

Good catch.

I liked this but I wish they had kept the conceit of the Stones only working in their native universe. Other nitpicks:

No one seems to even bother trying to remove the Stones from him…

Mind Stone isnt that powerful. Thanos is as invulnerable, if not more than The Hulk.*

Interestingly, Ultron goes on about Watcher lacking ‘vision’…but Ultron is mostly using the Stones to Brute Force his way around…Thanos was gonna remake the entire universe from the atoms up.

*Whats the trope called where its basically ‘Worf Effect’ to the nth degree? Or where you have to keep neutering a guy cause you made him too powerful in the past?

Deep Cut Example: In the 80’s, Magneto joined the X-Men, and then they kept leaving him on the sideline cause he would have single-handedly trashed whatever foe they happened to be fighting.

This week’s episode was as good as the Thor episode was a waste of time. I wrote earlier in this thread that I didn’t like the idea of multiverse Avengers but I think this episode changed my mind.

Watching Ultra Ultron cut Thanos down in two seconds was hilarious and cool as hell. I really liked this episode and can’t wait to see next week’s.

I’d have liked to see Ultron find Superior Strange’s universe. You’re determined to wipe out reality and you run across a universe where it’s already happened and there’s only one person left - do you kill the person? Ask for pointers? Check your spreadsheet if you’ve already been there before?

The more I think about this episode the more the plot holes stick out re: Thanos’s Stones. Where/how did he get them if the places that had them were untouched? Gamora is still alive, so how did he get the Soul Stone?

And how did Ultimatetron defeat the Hulk?

The Gauntlet permanently crippled both Hulk and Thanos, so there’s a limit, I guess. And how are just Hawkeye and Black Widow gonna get the Stones away from him?

I agree that it was interesting that the Time Stone wasn’t more used, but that might have been to make things more survivable?

This I never understood. Killing half the Universe really hurt him. Wiping out everything would kill him, surely. Did he not gain information on how the other him died?

And finally they start circling back to previous episodes. There’s, what, two more this season? Time enough to collect some heroes from previous episodes for a showdown against Ascended Ultron.

The big question in my mind: will this series connect back into the movies?

I think it already is. The Multiverse is supposed to be the over-arching meta-plot device in Phase IV. After Eternals, the next two MCU movies we’re getting are Spider-Man: No Way Home, which features the Multiverse as a central plot point, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which, well, it’s right there in the title. This whole series is part of the set-up for the Multiverse meta-plot.

Multidimensional Avengers Assemble!

The Watcher is undoubtedly going to get a team together. Armani Strange is just the first recruit. Who else is going to be in it? My picks, based on previous episodes:

  • Armani Strange
  • Captain Carter
  • Star-Lord T’Challa
  • non-zombie Peter Parker
  • Party Thor
  • Killmonger?
  • Some version of Carol Danvers
  • Some version of Natasha Romanoff

Pepper and Shuri

And Zola

It seems as though Stark gets himself killed in every alternate reality, so not him.

Though the Star-Lord T’Challa and Killmonger interaction could be interesting.
