What if you had the Jedi Mind Trick power?

… here we part company.

C’mon. We all know it would happen sooner or later.

1. Would you use this trick? I fear I would.

2. If so, are there limitations on how you’d use it? Again, I fear there would be no limit to the abuse.

**3. In what circumstances in your life would you find it most convenient?
** All the usual, get out of trouble, get my own way, get laid.
4. Would you tell anyone? No doubt I would have been too stupid in my youth to keep my secret. But now I would not tell anyone.

It would be nice to believe that maybe I would help people too. Kinda like the guy in King’s Firestarter who helped people lose weight and things like that.

  1. Yes
  2. No
  3. Asking for favors, I guess. like discounts or comps. Unfortunately, #4 prevents me from really making a profit by renting it out.
  4. Probably my husband but no one else.
  1. Yep.

  2. Sure. Don’t want to stand out or break the law.

  3. When buying beer: No, you don’t need to scan my driver’s license. No, I don’t need to write my phone number on the check.

  4. Nope.

  1. Yes

  2. Would make myself count to ten and really consider if I would feel guilty for using it. Casual coersion used constantly might make me lazy or abusive. Absolute power and all that.

  3. The first thing I thought of was to use it to toilet train my cats, making my life easier and more fragrant.

  4. Would tell my husband - I’m so used to telling him everything anyway that it would slip out, so best be upfront about it.

  1. Hell yeah… I can think of lots of situations where it would be ethically neutral, or even good.

  2. I doubt I’d use it for cruel stuff or things that people would regret. i.e. I wouldn’t use it to make people do humiliating or criminal things- using it to have someone else commit a crime is just the same as doing it yourself, especially if the JMT is in play.

  3. I’d probably use it for traffic tickets, bouncers, annual reviews and bonuses, and other minor things (get lots of women to show me their tits).

  4. I’d probably tell my wife, my brother and my best friend, but that’s it. And, I’d probably use it on them first to tell them not to tell anyone.

“You won’t tell a soul about the following conversation <hand wave>”

“So, I have the jedi mind trick. For real.”

I suspect cats, like Watto, are immune to JMTs.

1. Would you use this trick?
Hell yeah.

2. If so, are there limitations on how you’d use it?
I’m generally a nice guy, so I doubt I’d be using it to rob banks or rape women. Outside of my own fairly stringent moral code I can’t see a reason to impose further limitations.

3. In what circumstances in your life would you find it most convenient?
My current life? Probably not useful at all. I can see where I could use it to change the world around me quite a bit, and probably also benefit myself in the process, indirectly. It would take a while to work my way into the positions I want to be in, but the resulting shit storm from the public exposure of the political misdeeds in this country in the politicians’ own words would be quite noticeable.

I think Obama could use some help cleaning house too, so when I’m done here I could head home for a while. Get a vacation and some work done at the same time. Why do I have the feeling that a few more hypocritical politicians would kill their careers by admitting to some scandal or another?

4. Would you tell anyone?
Do I look stupid to you?

<wave> You feel foolish for asking that question.

I would use this every single day on my students. “You will act like a young adult instead of a young child. You will act your age. You will stop talking and write your essay. You will stop talking and listen to my lecture. You will do the work in groups without complaining. You will contribute to that group.”

Heh. I’m feeling good just writing about it.

I wouldn’t tell my wife, or anyone else. “You will get me a beer now.”

  1. Would you use this trick?
    Almost non-stop

  2. If so, are there limitations on how you’d use it?
I’d like to say yes, but absolute power yadda yadda.

  3. In what circumstances in your life would you find it most convenient?
The ability to manipulate the thoughts and actions of almost anyone you encounter would be almost like being a god. What circumstances wouldn’t I find it convenient?

  4. Would you tell anyone?
    No.

  • Cluricaun, burgeoning Sith Master.
  1. Yes.

  2. I would not use it at the expense of innocent people. The idea of using it for date rape disgusts me.

  3. Most likely, I would not find the need to use it unless I went into politics or law enforcement.

  4. No. Telling people would only increase the risk that it wouldn’t work when I really need it.

  1. Um, yes.

  2. I might limit how much I would use it at first, but I’m sure that eventually I’d be doing it almost constantly.

  3. Finding a new/better job. All kinds of social situations.

  4. Probably not, but maybe under the right circumstances.
