Ok, I saw an 19th century impressionist painting but forgot who painted it or where to find it. I could have sworn it was Monet, but I can’t remember.
It is French, an outdoor scene, a woman with I think a daughter, the lady has a big red hat on, almost like a lady’s top hat, and is in front of lots of green foliage at some garden. The red hat obviously was to contrast with the green. The hat looked almost a bit too much, like it was pretty obvious this was a set up to get that color there.
Anyone remember this? I was told that this was a textbook example of the “complimentary color” trick of putting reds next to greens, blues to orange, etc.
From the OP’s description, it sure sounds like something Renoir would do.
What’s wrong with a wikipedia cite? Especially for this?
I know there are a few people who poo-hoo wikipedia, but it’s been shown to be as good, for most subjects, as any prestigious encyclopedia. You can always check the sources and see if they stand up to scrutiny or not.
