I think you are talking about hole 18, and if it was, 18 is a longish par 4, not a par 5.

Both Lefty and Cabrera parred the hole. FWIW. Admittedly, Cabrera did have to make a long par putt.

[Speculation] The shot might not have suited his shot shape. There was a bunker in play with a driver. Cabrera had just won a few holes in a row and had the momemtum. He did not want to lose the MO with by putting his shot into the bunker, rough or desert.

Are you sure it was a 3-iron? Cabrera is very long and he might have a 1-iron in his bag. Just because the announcers said it was 3-iron doesn’t necessarily mean it is a fact. [/Speculation]

No…Im not ,but the announcers did say so.I know he is a big hitter,which is why it was puzzling especially since he had honors and the momentum.Mebbe he was counting on Phil to choke?I think if he hits long off the tee he wins the match.

Any chance the landing area for the driver was a little hairy? He may have chose to be safe then take a longer iron into the green rather than get himself in trouble trying to drive it closer.
