Also because she proved to him from the beginning that she was willing to do anything for him, including things that could (and should and still might) get her disbarred. As I said earlier in this thread:
She’s the kind of self-destructive sycophant he loves to surround himself with. See also: Rudy Giuliani.
I agree with the sentiment that assuming Habba even has a “deep game” is giving her waaaaayy to much credit. Her incompetence in this trial is cringeworthy.
She is just as worthless as Guiliani, and doesn"'t seem to recognize it. Nor does she seem to recognize it will be only a matter of months before Trump turns on her.
Wait, do you mean to suggest that Don Jr. could possibly end up stealing his dad’s new girlfriend? Because I would pay actual money to see that! The ultimate three-way betrayal!
I think part of the issue here is defining ‘success’. Habba may be on the verge of losing her license to practice law, but at the same time she’s now a household name. I believe she will leverage this to maybe become a talking head on Fox or as others have suggested get in on the fleecing rubes action for her piece of the scam pie.
Yeah, hers is not a legal practice career, deep game, it’s a “cash in on MAGA influencer celebrity” game. If you only became a lawyer so you could have a high paying gig, then it’s fungible with any other high paying gig.
And punish those who dared stymie him. Never forget that.
But yes, in Trump’s personal universe, informed by experience of his life, he is entitled to say and do whatever he damn pleases and have no reckoning or punishment. Problems were to be made to go away through bullying or paying off or some sort of accounting trick, and thus for someone like that it IS “so unfair” that because of his higher public profile the authorities have to be seen bringing the law down on him. “They let me (and others in similar circles) get away with it all my life, if they come down on me now it’s to punish me for having won bigly. Well, I’ll show them who punishes who.” That as his term was ending so many people were, shall we say, eagerly anticipating how once he was no longer in office he’d be quickly sued into penury by creditors, or jailed for crimes, only reinforced this in his mind.
Habba allegedly misrepresented herself as a neutral third party in a sexual harrassment claim against an employee of the Bedminster Club owned by Trump. Habba, a member of the club, approached this employee “as a friend,” convinced her to fire her lawyer, offered to give the employee advice, and convinced her to settle for a far lower amount that is typical for such cases. At the time, Habba was not representing Trump in any official capacity, but this may be how she first appeared on his radar. If the allegations can be substantiated, Habba might very well face sanctions.
Makes you wonder if there have ever been less qualified US Attorneys. As far as I can recall, the US Attys I’ve been aware of have at least been decently competent lawyers and administrators.
