In a recent article about summer movies, it referred to the “bampfing” in X-2 as a great special effect.
The only thing I can think of was when Rebecca Romijn-Stamos morphed into Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, etc … (I think I have that right) … is that it?

Bampfing is when Nightcrawler teleports. So named because of the “Bampf!” sound it makes.

Nitpick: It’s not “bampf”, it’s “bamf”. I haven’t heard what Mystique did referred to as anything other than “morphing”.
Or, more specifically, in the comic books, the artists write the word “Bamf!” in a sound effect bubble whenever they show Nightcrawler teleporting.
I think you’d call Mystique’s morphing something like… “sslslrrlsssshhllsss”…
But I doubt that term will catch on.

Actually, it’s typically the letterers who are responsible for sound effects – but not always.
