What is going on with GoComics?

I don’t read a lot of internet news. I get all my zeitgeist from folks I know and the local TV news. Everything else, I figure I can google it and get what I need. I do keep a Yahoo! Account open to catch the daily glurg when I check my email, but I don’t read the articles unless I’m really interested.

However, I do like to read the daily funnies. Especially the Sunday comics. I usually go to GoComics (no link provided because I’m ticked at them). I use this as a sort of mind numbing exercise cool-down at the end of the day, or ease into my day type of thing first thing in the morning. Besides, I like to read the funnies. (For example, I’m home from work and reading the funnies before the basketball game begins.)

As of late, however, GoComics has developed an annoying habit. Instead of opening one comic, reading, and clicking back to go to the next comic, I open each one in a new tab and get a few open at once. It takes a bit for each one to load, so I pause, take a sip (or bite of whatever meal I’m eating), allow it to load, and then open a new tab for the next one. I read each tab and close as needed. Rinse and repeat. I don’t overload my browser by too much. I never have more than a few (5) tabs open at once.

So, this is what I’ve noticed on more than one occasion: When I close a tab, after a few seconds, the website will “assume” I’ve closed it by accident and re-open it. It takes a while to reload, slows down my comic enjoyment, and I have to close it again. Sometimes it repeats three or four times.

This has just begun about a month ago. It doesn’t happen every time, or every day. Or every week for that matter. Just when it decides it wants to. And not on every tab either. I’ve tried to adjust my IE settings, cleared my cache, deleted cookies, yadda yadda yadda. Yet it still persists, albeit intermittently.

I don’t like this. I’m just wondering if anybody else is having this problem, or have I just become a luddite who isn’t aware of some new ad pop-up tech? (GoComics does have that annoying Meebo toolbar at the bottom of the page, but as long as I keep it minimized, it usually doesn’t present a problem.)

-Cheers!!!

Never tried that. My comics all open up on one page. Just scroll down to read them.
