The site seems to have been down for the last three days. I need my comics fix and gocomic’s competitors don’t carry the strips I prefer to read.
No idea why but I noticed that neither The Far Side nor Doonesbury have been available for a couple of days.
I’ve found an alternate outlet for Doonesbury, Dilbert and a few others at Comics | ArcaMax Publishing
I keep assuming that the next time I try opening the site it will work and, alas, it doesn’t. I hope it’s not going bankrupt or otherwise crapping out.
System maintenance or some unrevealed issue. The GoComics Twitter has finally addressed the outage.
In the meantime, here’s The Daily Cartoonist with alternate sources of GoComics strips.
Thanks. I went with the Arcamax site. It still doesn’t cover everything, and the others I like aren’t on the other alternatives. Oh, well, first world problem I guess.
Thanks, @De_La_Rue! I was able to find four out of five of my GoComics usuals (Garfield, Pickles, Pluggers, Breaking Cat News). None of the listed sites carry Calvin and Hobbes, but those are all reruns anyway.
I know it’s silly of me, but it really does help my wife and me destress after a long day. The comics we like to read every night are:
Andy Capp
Baby Blues
Calvin & Hobbes
Doonesbury
Garfield
Garfield Classics
Luann
Luann Againn
Mannequin on the Moon
Peanuts
Peanuts Begins
Perry Bible Fellowship
Pickles
Ripley’s Believe It or Not!
It’s good for a few minutes and quite relaxing.
I must read Family Circus, Luann, Pearls Before Swine, Pluggers, Cul De Sac, Curtis, and Mary Worth. (sometimes Rex Morgan). I really miss Jumpstart, can’t find it even on the Jumpstart official site… Arcamax has most of what I read, but a few I have to search for.
Now Comics Kingdom and sites which mirror their strips have yet to show content for today. Weird.
Well, at least we’re now seeing different error messages than the ones that have been showing up for the last few days. I choose to see that as progress. At least the situation is not stuck at where it was, there’s some change.
And they’re now showing actual comics. OK, so they’re still on Nov 18, but that’s better than we’ve seen in several days.
I was able to page through to the present, so the comics were all there for me. I just caught up.
I’m wondering if it’s something that started in this part of the world (China). For the longest time, I had no problem going to gocomics without using a VPN, then about two months ago, I had to have the VPN running, then a week ago, for about two days, no VPN required. Then BAM! No access.
At this point, I’m current on my comics, user account still not viewable.
I don’t know if there is any connection, but…
I subscribe to the Washington Post. There are three comics I read every day: Broom Hilda, Pearls Before Swine, and Shoe. For the past several days, the first two do not load after I click on them.
I’m not sure if this is totally accurate, but I’ve seen discussion of the GoComics roster (which does include both of those) being comics connected to Andrews McMeel, and that the latter was also having problems in the last few days. The Andrews McMeel website does list GoComics as an affiliate site (bottom of page).
I think it’s fixed!
I went to Arcamax to look and entered email to be sent comics. I don’t know why I trusted it.
No comics arrived but I have gotten at least nine junk site emails in three or four hours.
Arcamax is garbage. I advise against giving the site your email address.
Thanks for the tip! I went to the site you suggested and was able to catch up on both. I can’t go a day without Pearls Before Swine!
