“Nice guy” is more like the wolf in sheep’s clothing. The sort of guy who invests everything and receives little or nothing is a “simp.”
In my admittedly limited experience hearing it in the wild like 5 times, it’s not just about not being girly, it’s about displaying contempt for girly girls in order to feel special and/or ingratiate yourself with guys. If you just don’t like girly things that’s fine, it’s when you start putting down other girls that the label starts to attach.

I was actually thinking the song “Girlfriend” by Avril Lavigne, and especially the video, is exemplary. Punk Avril dressing and acting like the boy she wants (which in the context of the video could be either authentic or inauthentic) while also heavily putting down her competitor girl (preppy Avril).
