Anyone ever hear of this? And I don’t mean SQL Server Management Studio either. I just started a new job and have been specifically told to down load Management Studio. I thought he meant SQL, but no. Is “Microsoft Management Studio” even a thing?
What is the job about? Is this one of those potentially shady work from home deals or are you at an office where people are obviously working on important stuff?
This came up at the same time I was downloading Visual Studio 2012 and then downloading code for the first time using Team Foundation Server. I was able to download the code, but I can’t connect to a Team Project. I found out that I have to have Team Explorer, so I got it, but still can’t connect to a project. Perhaps he meant Team Explorer.
I don’t have a clue, but I also really don’t want to have to ask. It seems as though I am expected to be something of an SA, setting up TFS for myself and all. I am actually a software developer working on web design for the first time, and don’t want to get off on the wrong foot. I want to figure this out on my own.
There is no such thing as MS Management Studio as far as I know (and I should, it is a big part of my job to know all about such things). It sounds like the person that told you had SQL Server Management Studio on the brain and misspoke. I would just ask politely for the person that asked you to download it what they really meant because there is no such thing by that name. You won’t sound dumb, quite the opposite, because it is their mistake. If they still can’t give you the real name, at least get them to tell you what the intended purpose of it is and we can figure it out from there.
Ask whoever told you to get it for an approved URL for the download. That should clear it right up. Most companies worth their IT salt will either have an approved version in your internal network somewhere, or have a document which details where you are supposed to get your tools.
You also need to know what version he wants so if it says 3.0 or some small number, then Management Framework…
If he says 2012 or some year , or Express version, then SQL Management Studio.
