What is .mix file format and how do I view it?

I have a picture file in .mix format. How can I view it? It was a letter that was scanned onto a file by a friend of mine and sent to me.

.mix format is the default format used by MicroSoft PictureIt image editing software. Ask your friend to open his copy and save it as a .jpg format. Then he can send you a new copy. Or take your .mix copy and give it to someone else with that program and they can do the same.
