I need to convert a .mix file to a .jpg or .tif format.
Anyone know of a freeware conversion utility? Anyone willing to convert this (900k) file for me?
The picture is located here
Any help would be appreciated.

I have it and will see what I can do.
You can try Vueprint. It has a 15 day free trial but im not sure if it will work with mix files or not but its a good image viewer/converter.
You can find it here: http://www.hamrick.com/upg.html
I have Picture It and I tried, but I got an error message: “Cannot open, this picture was converted with a newer version of Picture It”. Well if that isn’t the stupidest…Older versions of the same program can’t read newer versions? Another reason why I quit using Picture It and went with Paint Shop Pro and Irfanview.
I’ve got Picture It at home, and I seem to recall a way to export pictures from it into jpg format - have you tried all the File choices? It may have been a little convoluted getting to it.

Uh…actually, it’s pretty common for an older version of an application to be unable to read a newer version file format. I’m not talking about standardized picture or text file formats, but files with proprietary file formats. There’s just too many code changes that go into the newer version. Some programs have a “Down Rev Save” function to accomodate for this, (ex: “Save as PowerPoint 4.0”), but PictureIt does not, since you can export in so many standard graphics formats.
It was a huge undertaking to get newer versions of Office to have their file formatts be cross-platform compatible and compatible with older versions. (Starting with Office97).
Old Bull–no dice. Vueprint won’t open it.
I’m beginning to think it’s a proprietary format that only Picture-It can open.
I may have to have the client re-send the picture, but this person is, well, pretty computer illiterate, so it could get ugly.
Thanks to all who have tried so far.
Bump!
Weird. Microsoft Word is able to give me a thumbnail of the picture, but won’t open it. It’s a picture of “Windy City” magazine Volume 2.
Just got around to trying it, and my version is too old as well. Sorry.
