I originally read the last line of the tooltip text as “What does this word ‘salad’ mean?”. I was therefore expecting the quote (which doesn’t appear in the hover-over text) to contain ‘salad’, and I was momentarily thrown when it didn’t. Shame, as I thought I was going to be able to explain about lettuce, tomatoes etc.
Yes, and to expand: Anarchism is naivete pretending to cynicism, in that it insists that the system cannot be reformed, but believes that it can be uprooted and replaced with something better, as opposed to just a more violent and chaotic version of the same thing.
More concretely, anarchism has no solace for the despised minority: If the majority of a given region wants to beat on gays, or Blacks, or Catholics, an anarchist system has no solution except to deny the existence of the problem. A governmental system at least has the potential to restrain the ills of the majority, and many governments have in the past, despite the protestations of the ideological. And this also goes to inexperience: If someone is so privileged they have no experience with being a member of a despised minority, and don’t even have a full conception of the concept, anarchism would be that much more appealing to them.
(It also goes to the innocence pretending to cynicism thing: The anarchist would demand that governments never look out for minorities, something which is factually untrue but, more importantly, speaks to the fact they cannot answer the underlying objection, because it’s too far outside their conception.)
Anarchism has deep philosophy, which shouldn’t be surprising: Theory is what discredited political ideologies have instead of policy.
