I’m in the grocery store and on my list is passata (bottled strained tomatoes)
What the heck is passata? Is it tomato sauce? Tomato paste? Some hitherto unknown (to me at least) way that Italians torture tomatoes?
I’m staring at the variety of Italian tomato tinned products but no passata.
Thanks!
Tomato puree with ONLY tomatoes. No spices other than (maybe) salt.
Look for Pomi brand in the tetra pack
Pomi
NINJA’d. Shouldn’t have gotten up to double check in my Italian gastronomy book!
It is a sauce made of tomatoes that have been sieved… meaning it has been passed through a strainer to remove seeds…
This is information I have thrown together from google… Perhaps someone more qualified can go into the nitty gritty.
Thanks all - I’m not seeing tomato purée here and our local Italian deli is closed. If I had to choose a substitute, I’m guessing tomato sauce?
ETA: it’s for a slow cooker pork roast recipe.
Aha! Crushed tomatoes! I think that’s as close as I’ll get.
In other news, Safeway and Sobey’s have both let me done in the matter of fresh Brussels sprouts. Will have to make do with frozen.
