What is something really strange you encountered in life?

I’m against circumcision of male infants, I personally think it is mutilation for no medical reason. I’m from the USA and the only person I’ve shared this with was my wife, she isn’t from the USA and our son was not born in the USA.

When our son was born my sister called me to congratulate me, within minutes she asked me if I had my son circumcised. I said uh no, it is not done here as routine like in the USA and aside from that I think it is wrong. She said well can you go to a private doctor and have it done, someone must do it. I said no we will not be doing that to him, she dropped it and never mentioned it again.

I found it beyond strange my sister apparently called me on the birth of my son to make sure I cut off his foreskin.

*We’re not jewish or muslim, never discussed it with her before that day.

It sounds like your sister has a different view on the matter but respects your right to have yours with respect to your son.

Strange, indeed.

I think we Americans have been led to believe that this practice (-outside of religious reasons ) is necessary…um, it’s not. I don’t know tHe stats, but I recall that one can be circumcised as an adult, if medically necessary or desired, conversion ,etc…but that does not happen all that much.,.at least not to justify its prevalence in infancy.

From the subject line, I expected stories of poltergeists or UFO sightings. Circumcision was the last thing I imagined.

Yes, I think it’s strange your sister brought it up.

If somebody answers the title question, is that considered “off topic” now, if it does not address the remarks in the OP?

How is it really strange, exactly?

Is he circumsized ? seems on the same level as, how much did he weigh?, what colour are his eyes? etc, especially as it’s a family member. Just demonstrating interest in every detail of the new baby, it seems to me. Doesn’t come near ‘really strange’ for me.

(Especially since the OP has previously posted of dog slaughter and attempted poisoning by family members, threats etc!)

Colour me also disappointed this thread didn’t live up to its title.

Many of us on this board DO know the stats, it’s been discussed here ad nauseum. I will not re-re-re-re-hash, but look up prior threads to get medical, religious and societal implications of circumcision.

I bet you’re one of them PRO-Vaxers. :stuck_out_tongue:

Of course I am. Amateur-Vaxers screw up too much.

This! I’d love to talk about the weird things I’ve seen in my life…but I have no great interest in the circumcision debate. (The Star Trek Transporter debate and the .999… debates were already way too much…)

Declaw your cat? Toilet paper under or over the roll? Three guys rent a hotel room for $30…

Addressing the title question:

After hearing that I’m an atheist, a coworker said: “I can prove that you’re not an atheist. If you were, who would you pray to?”

Strange.

What was your response?

On a crew in the military. One of the guys was from the God Squad, constantly annoying people with his beliefs. One day he asked me how old my son was. I said “six”. He replies, “Oh, too bad he won’t live to see thirteen.” I just stood and stared at him, while contemplating whether to punch him in the throat or knee him in the nuts. I think he saw death approaching, as he quickly walked away from me. Weirdo.
