Hi. My video card recently went bad. I was all set to buy a new one when I discovered that I have an AGP 1.0 slot on my mobo instead of the needed 2.0. So my question is, assuming I buy used or old stock, what is the fastest/best AGP 1.0 that is out there? Also, do you know a place on the internet that I can buy it? Thanks!
I’m not totally up on agp 1.0 since i’m a gamer and as such have to have the latest and greatest to kill before i’m killed .
However, i found some interesting info for you until someone more knowledgeable shows up. http://www.ati.com/support/faq/agpchart.html has a chart that shows agp types for there cards. From that i would say the Rage Fury Maxx is the latest card to be agp 1.0. At http://www.howstuffworks.com/agp3.htm they say straight out that agp 1.0 boards are not compatible with the agp 2.0 standard.
You might have some luck if list exactly what motherboard you have as it may be able to use newer cards as is…or maybe you could try looking for the newest bios and see if that adds the features you need.
If you really do have an AGP 1.0 slot, then a PCI videocard is your best option. ATI Radeon 9000 cards are available in PCI format, which is probably the best card you can get. Of course, your BEST option is a new computer:)

- I don’t know what the best AGP1 card is, but you can still find new old videocards out there. I don’t think it’s worth worrying about as far as finding the “best”, because you’re dealing with an old system and you don’t have a lot of choices anyway.

- One place I know of for super-cheap (old) new/unused comp parts is “Package2You”–> http://66.216.68.88/ --I have ordered from the place myself, my order came on time and was charged correctly.
…Also Tiger-Direct carries some pretty old cheapo-stuff also.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody. I would get a pci card but it requires a 250 watt power supply and I am unsure that my power supply is good enough (I looked for freeware that would test this but nada) I guess I should just try to get the exact same one I have. It is so old: an original geforce 256. Know any used places that are selling them other than ebay? DougC, I tried your links but they didn’t have them.
