What is the best hot chocolate?

I am on a quest for the Ultimate Hot Chocolate.

Opinions needed.

I love hot chocolate and look forward to the responses in this thread.
Definitely it needs to be made with milk; and whipped cream on the top with chocolate or mint flakes is to die for.

To make the very best hot chocolate get yourself a copy of The Silver Palate Cookbook and make their fudge sauce. (I’m posting from work so I don’t have the recipe with me.) Combine this sauce with hot milk and you get wonderfully rich hot chocolate.

yummmmmmmm

I must go make a cup now that I’ve thought about it.

Their citrus and spice wassail is to drool for too!

any with peppermint liquer in it. Boil it if you don’t want the alcohol.

I don’t know the ultimate recipe, but I do know the best hot chocolate I ever had.

When I was just out of high school, my mom and her fiance took all us kids on a cross-country trip. We spent a couple days at the Grand Canyon, and ate one night at a fancy restaurant on the Canyon’s rim.

Their hot chocolate was incredible. I’d be carrying on a conversation, and I’d take a sip of the hot chocolate, and gasp, and close my eyes, and completely lose my train of thought. Someone watching me would’ve thought I was getting a blowjob under the table. It was really goddamn good, the only time I’ve ever understood people suggesting chocolate could be as good as sex.

I’ve made a lot of hot chocolate myself, and hot cocoa, and used all kinds of liqueur and high-quality chocolates and ganache bases and heavy creams, but I’ve never approached in quality the hot chocolate I had on the edge of the Grand Canyon.

If talking about powdered stuff, it is. Especially the mint.

Not powdered is iffier. When it’s good, it’s great. when it’s bad, it’s really bad, and I’ve never consistently been able to find a place or method that always works (though there is a cafe in town that does better more often than not.)

Max Brenner real chocolate drinking chocolates. Get a pair of Suckaos while your at it.

There is this place in New York City that my friend lived nearby. I’m not quite sure where. This was not too long ago.

It is an eyeglasses store. A very hip one.

They also, for some reason, serve hot chocolate.

This stuff comes in the kinds of cups you’d expect to find espresso in. You get it and you say “four bucks for that?” There are a few varieties- my favorite is spicy mexican with hot peppers and cinnamon (trust me, it works. I always throw in a dash of cayanne to my hot chocolate at home now).

Oh God it is wonderful. It is so rich that a simple sip is nearly orgasmic. A cup will last you the entire walk home. It’s the most heavenly thing I’ve ever tasted, and I’ve tasted a lot of things. I can see why this stuff was sacrad to the Aztecs. I epsecially reccomend it one rainy afternoons.

I like the Ghiradelli (sp?) stuff. With lots of marshmallows.

There was a recipe from Martha Stewart for hot chocolate that would have you put excellent quality chocolate and one specific kind of hot pepper mixed in.

I’ve since lost the recipe as I could never find that elusive pepper ( ancho, I think) but I did watch Chocolat and it makes up for it all.

Mexican Hot Chocolate

Mint Hot Chocolate

Perfect Hot Chocolate

I still can’t find the one I thought it was. Nuts.

Dunkin’ Donuts. Not kidding

Also, the frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity 3 in New York.

Burdick’s - http://www.burdickchocolate.com/

They have a shop in Harvard Sq, the hot chocolate is to die for.

I had really good hot chocolate once from a booth at Silver Dollar City in Branson.

(I know. Kinda weird.)

New Yawk City!?

I tried this recipe last year and it is by far the best homemade hot chocolate I have ever had.

Glenn Beck’s Coma Hot Chocolate

5 pints of LIGHT CREAM or 1/2 & 1/2.
12 Hershey candy bars.

Slowly heat cream on stove, break candy bars in small pieces and slowly add to warm cream. Stir until melted candy is fully mixed.

Serve ASAP and try not to go into a coma.

WARNING: DO NOT EAT WITH TURKEY OR YOU MAY NEVER WAKE UP.

I don’t know about Hot Chocolate, but the best Chocolate Milk consists of Bailey’s Irish Cream and Godiva Chocolate Liqueur. I suppose one could simply heat it up for a darned nice chocolate hot toddy …

There is no such thing as bad hot chocolate. Actually there is no such thing as bad anything with the word chocolate in it. But perfect? You definitely need cinnamon.

Bella, had you tried the chicken mole that my wife had on the Outer Banks once – grilled chicken slathered in Hershey’s syrup, by the taste of it – you wouldn’t say that.

I mean, sure, the restaurant didn’t call it Chocolate Chicken, but we did. And it was surely bad.
