What is the best thing you've ever heard from SD posters?

Well, I’m sort of speechless here, but thank you to BOTH of you for feeling that I am someone it is a compliment to be compared to. [sub]there I go being convoluted again, sorry[/sub] You are both sweethearts.

“You’re a lot nicer than I thought you’d be.”

I get that a lot off the boards too, though.

When I ran in to a rough patch a while back, Euty started a thread asking for good thoughts for me. I cannot tell you how much the kind words and thoughts of the many, many Dopers that replied helped me. They didn’t even know what was wrong, just that I needed moral support, and they provided it in spades.

Knowing that I share a planet with people as wonderful as that humbles me big time.

The best things I heard ended up in my sig.

I wish I could remember specific examples, but I’m hampered by the fact that there are too many to recall.

I think the best things I’ve heard have been particularly apt analogies or logical syllogisms (is that the right word?) from Dopers trying to explain their thinking or refute an error in someone else’s argument. It seems like once a week I think “Geez, that’s so right, and I would never have thought of that!” It’s broadening, and it’s something I am trying to train my mind to be better at.

I guess I’d have to say the same for those of you who keep a cool head in a fierce debate. It’s another thing I admire and wish to emulate.

On a more selfish level, anytime someone lays a compliment on me… well, those are nice things to hear from Dopers.

“I love it”

And any number of things said to me by Tygr, Sir Rhosis, Verrain, and True Pisces

A medical term that fits quite aptly here. It means Too Numerous To Count. I would have to say that the 'I love you’s and other wonderful, amazing, totally unexpected compliments are in the top. Along with all of the mind-stretching, re-organizing of certain old thought patterns and just plain making me go ‘Huh. Well, what do you know. Learn something new every day.’ Thanks, y’all, for teaching me so much about life and the ‘human condition’. I am becoming more than I was by the mere association of so many intelligent, wonderful, kind, sweet people on here. Oh, dear. Mere doesn’t sound right. I meant that just by hanging out here and reading posts I have learned so much and am hopefully becoming a better human being as a result.

And then there are the flirts… Gotta love a place I can flirt to my heart’s content and have a few now and then actually flirt back! insert happily surprised smilie

And Clay, I am so sorry that my stupid email acct. got too full and they deleted your email before I put your addy in my address book. Please forgive, and email me again. I promise to answer you this weekend. <what can I say? I’m a packrat who hates to delete emails from her friends. guess I’d better figure out something soon.>

I’ve gotten some private e-mails that have meant the world to me. It continues to amaze me how someone I’ve never met and likely will never meet still has managed to bring a smile to me.

You know who you are…

not face to face, but a doper mailed me this once, and I think it sealed our friendship.
Yeats:- “When You are old”.
When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

That is beautiful, Twisty. I can see why it would help towards sealing a friendship.

I’ve said this to her, and even written of it before. Scotti reached out to me after I had to put down my dog, Molly. I live with a man who doesn’t love me, and yet what kept me crying day after day, was missing my dog. Cheri didn’t make fun of me, or think me silly. I didn’t have to act ‘strong’ for her, like I had to do for sons, who were suffering so much too. I could just BE, and that was enough.

There are people who just have the knack to say the right thing at just the right time, and those are the ones you never forget. ** Scotticher ** IS that person, God bless you for that, sweetie.

Judy

Thank you so much, Judy. I am glad I was able to help, and I am eternally grateful for your unconditional love and friendship.

So many wonderful things have been said to me by posters on this message board, I couldn’t even begin to repeat them all. So just let me say that when I have the time to sit down and write a couple of thousand word essays on this subject, I will post again to this thread and share them with you.

Thank you to all of you who participate so wonderfully in my life. I love each and every one of you. If you don’t know who you are already, I am not giving back to you as much as you are giving to me, and I had better get working on my friendship skills.

Much Love,

Cheri

A number of posters liked my sig.
And one nice young woman complimented my picture.

What! The people pages have lost a great number of photos, including mine. Will have to look into that, I guess.

Having a chance to interact with a community whose average IQ is above room temperature is always a plus. But above all it is the occasional praise from the praiseworthy that can be quite gratifying. The level of courtesy and overall decency of so many people here is a real joy to be part of.
