In light of the thread about gdave saying he’s leaving, it occurs to me that maybe we could show some appreciation to other posters and build community. Which posters do you enjoy, for whatever reason?
I’ll nominate @Beckdawrek - there’s always a positive energy they provide to a thread, even if it can be a bit over the top at times. And they’re good at laughing at themselves as well.
Second, @Stranger_On_A_Train - no matter the subject they post on, it there is a great deal of deep thought involved, even if (on non-science matters) I don’t alwwwaaaaaays agree.
Oh, and shameless plug for my thread in a similar vein - which has a lot of similar praise:
This place is a haven.
I have always received informative replies to my questions. I have received measured, polite, informative replies to my opinions.
I personally haven’t found the moderation to be intrusive or bad.
I find the overall atmosphere here to be quite kind. That is becoming a more rare thing in discourse these days.
I try but maybe sometimes fail, to match the atmosphere. I have just backed off some threads because I felt I was getting too riled up in my discourse. Or just felt I had nothing of value left to add. Or was wrong.
It feels like a lot of folks here do similar things in their discourse. I like that. It feels like we teach and learn here. I mostly learn.
I like it here.
I appreciate this place.
Woot! Thanks. I feel seen! I feel validated! I feel loved! Well, maybe that’s going too far.
There are so many posters i appreciate. I have to say that i really appreciate the careful, detailed posts of @Stranger_On_A_Train , and similarly, @Qadgop_the_Mercotan . I love @Beckdawrek 's enthusiasm. I appreciate the non-mod-modding that @IvoryTowerDenizen does with her thoughtful reporting of problematic posts. And so many more wonderful posters.
I don’t want to start naming names, because I will, without a doubt, forget to name way too many of you, with whom I enjoy interacting here.
This place has helped me to stay informed, be entertained, and stay sane, these past two years most of all. It wouldn’t have been able to do so without the brains, and hearts, of the people who post here.
I agree with you that naming names is a way to leave someone out. But I want to give a shoutout to the folks I meet all week in the Monday Morning Post threads.
@Chefguy gave me some tips on making biscuits a few years ago (and now my biscuits are delicious), so I’ll always have a soft spot for you. The fellow Portlander thing helps too.
I always like @Sunny_Daze’s posts, whether it’s insightful thoughts on some topic, or just ripping some deserving asshole a new one. But then she moved out of Oregon, so now I don’t like her quite as much.
