As I prepare to leave Oregon myself, I can only lament my lowered esteem in your eyes.
I no longer call out anyone in these sorts of threads, as most everyone over the years has said something worth reading, even the occasional troll or dipstick. And even the most righteous of posters has probably said something they regret. In all, it’s an eclectic mix of interesting backgrounds and abilities, and a reliable source of answers for even the most esoteric of questions, and I’m happy to have been a part of it for all these years.
I don’t always check the poster names when reviewing threads, but @Beckdawrek has always been the wind beneath my wings, plus the only person to actually welcome me to this list with a private message, which I thought was very kind.
Much thanks to the other posters who actually write useful, accurate, and informative posts.
@Spice_Weasel has been a wonderful sounding board for me for many years now and has been consistently loving and wise in her guidance. I’ve struggled during Covid with writing a novel and the only thing that’s been keeping me going is that fact that she thinks it’s a worthwhile project. Her approval has been invaluable. I wish she posted more.
@ZipperJJ is not only one of my favorite posters, she’s one of my favorite people, period. She’s been a good sounding board for me as well and we’ve discussed issues both deep and mundane, important and benign, and everything in between. She’s called me out when I’ve posted stupid things and has guided me towards being a better, more conscientious participant on the boards. I wish we were neighbors IRL.
And of course @Cecil_Adams himself helped me discover my current career. I owe much gratitude to him for that alone. Knowing this @TubaDiva once emailed me and suggested I start a SDMB drive to collect Cecil’s books for my classroom. The fact that she reached out to me about that has always warmed my heart and I’ve always regretted not taking her up on her offer.
Thanks! I really appreciate it (wow, someone noticed and liked my posts enough to spend a moment to say something. Definitely a feel-good moment for me today, thanks!), and appreciate being listed among a few other posters (Kimstu and puzzlegal) whose posts often are what I wished I had the patience or eloquence or energy to have written.
I’m a fan of @thorny_locust . We live in nearly opposite corners of the lower 48 with completely different life styles, and she is always providing me with interesting information about things I know nothing about and a fresh point of view. I like being nudged out of ruts.
